Happy Labor Day from IAFF Local 1038!

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It is a day to recognize the generations of working men and women who organized, stood together, and fought to make the American workplace safer, fairer, and stronger.

The labor movement helped pave the way for many of the protections and benefits workers rely on today — safer working conditions, fair wages, reasonable working hours, overtime protections, retirement benefits, health benefits, and a collective voice in the workplace.

As members of IAFF Local 1038, we are proud to carry on that tradition. The strength of organized labor has always come from workers standing together, looking out for one another, and working to leave the job better for those who come after us.

To those who came before us, those working today, and the next generation of union workers:

Shortly after noon, Station 100 was alerted on the 2nd Alarm to assist Station 197 (Moon Twp) with a working fire. 100 Engine 14 arrived and was assigned to staging. Personnel were returned in service shortly after arriving.

In the morning of 7/26, Engine 6 was alerted for a reported structure fire with entrapment in West Mifflin. Engine 6 arrived and was ordered to begin suppression activities on the 1st floor. Upon entering the structure, the fire had already been extinguished with a water can and the crew then ensured evacuation of the involved apartments and also assisted with horizontal ventilation. After being assigned to staging, Engine 6 stood by for the remainder of the incident.

In the morning of Monday, 7/13/26, Station 100 was alerted as part of the 2nd Alarm to Edgeworth for a structure fire in a large residence. The fire would eventually grow to a 3rd Alarm for manpower assistance and multiple apparatus were parked up to a 1/2 mile from the scene. UTVs were brought in to transport firefighters and equipment to the scene. Local 1038 responded with 4 firefighters and provided manpower to relieve interior crews and check for extension on multiple floors.
