Our second Outstanding Preservation Project Award this year went to 3North, Lionberger Construction and 1200 Architectural Engineers for their restoration of the Warm Springs Pools.

Located in the tranquil mountains of Bath County, the Warm Springs Pools have attracted a devoted following for more than 250 years. 3North and their architectural team utilized reports and histories sourced by the community to bolster their own research and analysis of the structures. The intensive restoration project saw these unique bathhouses reopened to the public.

Awardees will be honored at this year’s awards ceremony at the Hotel John Marshall in Richmond on September 29th. The keynote address will be given by Chief G. Anne Richardson of the Rappahannock Indian Tribe, who won an Outstanding Preservation Achievement award in 2022. Tickets to the event are available at preservationawards.eventbrite.com.

We all have been so focused on the Bath Houses that it is easy to forget the other valued, historic structures on the Pools property. Our thanks again to Lisa Peruchini-Brady for this pic (from the Church Street angle) of the “Victorian Cottage” and drinking spring. The cottage has had many names. Probably the most appropriate is “Aunt Fanny’s House,” since it provided lodging for the Bath-keepers for many years. It more recently served as the reception center. We also have heard that the bridge between the area next to the gazebo on US 220 and the Pools property will be replaced. All good news.
