🎉 NY Creates is proud to celebrate the graduation of our first cohort of pre-apprentices through MACNY, The Manufacturers Association of Central New York’s Advance to Apprenticeship program.

After weeks of virtual and hands-on, in-person training, all 11 Cleanroom Operator (CRO) participants earned their Certified Manufacturing Associate credential, a significant accomplishment as they take the next step toward their careers in the semiconductor industry.

We’re grateful to our workforce development partners at MACNY, Manufacturers Talent Institute - MTI, and Empire State Development's Office of Strategic Workforce Development for helping create meaningful pathways into these high-tech careers.

Congratulations to our inaugural cohort, and we’re excited to see their skills drive advancements in technologies will see in the future. 👏

✨ Meet the Creators at NY Creates: Michelle Swindell, Shipping and Receiving - Team Lead!

We are proud to recognize Michelle Swindell, a dedicated member of the Shipping and Receiving team at the NFN dock.

At NY Creates, Michelle plays an important role in ensuring packages and materials are received, processed, and delivered efficiently. Her commitment to exceptional service helps keep operations running smoothly for our tenants, partners, and internal teams.

“I love working with all the tenants and enjoy the daily challenges that come with the job. I enjoy the fast-paced environment and multitasking to help get everyone's packages in and off our dock in a timely manner. Meeting new people every day is a great joy for me!”

As the Albany NanoTech Complex continues to expand, with major initiatives including tool arrivals for NanoFab Reflection and the High NA EUV Lithography Center, Michelle helps coordinate the movement of equipment, materials, and construction deliveries. She was recognized by her director for consistently providing top-notch service alongside her manager and the Shipping and Receiving team. NY Creates' partners know they can rely on the team to get the job done efficiently, and Michelle's professionalism, reliability, and friendly approach make her a valued colleague. 👏

🗞️ In an article by the Times Union, NY Creates’ was mentioned as part of a new Center for Economic Growth (CEG) study that highlights the Capital Region’s strength in semiconductor innovation, with nearly 600 semiconductor-related patents issued to local researchers in 2025.

“For the study, James Schlett, director of research and communications at the center, reviewed patents issued to local researchers and inventors working in the semiconductor industry in 2025.

Schlett found that nearly 600 patents involving semiconductor technology were issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to local scientists last year. More than 250 of those patents were assigned to IBM, which conducts its quantum computer chip research and development at NY Creates’ Albany NanoTech campus.”

“Tokyo Electron US, a Japanese company that does all of its U.S. research at Albany NanoTech, was listed as receiving the second-highest number of patents, between 100 and 125..."

Our 3rd Annual NY Creates Cars & Coffee Social was packed with incredible vehicles, plenty of coffee, and even better company.

Employees from across NY Creates and the Albany NanoTech Complex gathered at The Hangar at 743 to share stories, check out an amazing lineup of cars, and enjoy time together outside the workplace.

ICYMI: NY Creates and Lam Research Corporation announced a collaboration to increase semiconductor workforce development across the Northeast over the course of the next five years, assisting training over 3,500 students.

Through academic collaborations and industry-aligned education in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and process integration, this partnership is anticipated to promote semiconductor workforce development across NY Creates' programs and partner schools and institutions. These students will have access to some of the most cutting-edge semiconductor R&D innovations in the world through our Albany NanoTech Complex, including our High NA EUV Lithography Center, housed in the state-of-the-art NanoFab Reflection facility, where construction is expected to be complete later this year.

From the classroom to the cleanroom, we’re helping prepare the next generation of semiconductor innovators for the technologies shaping our future.

🔊 The Capital Region's semiconductor ecosystem is making an impact in photonics, optics and quantum.

A new Center for Economic Growth (CEG) analysis found that nearly 600 semiconductor-related patents were awarded in 2025 to inventors from the region.

“Among them, 91, or 14 percent, had Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) codes relating to silicon photonics/optics and/or quantum computing. That means almost one in six semiconductor patents listing local inventors pertain to those fields.”

As NY Creates and AIM Photonics collaborate with industry leaders and research partners across the Capital Region and beyond, we are excited to continue driving advances in technologies critical to AI, high-speed communications, and quantum systems.

✨ Supporting Innovation and Advancing Organizational Goals: Meet Jennifer Tetrault, NY Creates’ Strategy and Industrial Relations Manager!

As a key member of the Business Strategy and Industrial Relations team, Jennifer helps build and manage strategic partnerships that support innovation and advance organizational goals while also fostering relationships that drive technological advancement and mutual success. Her exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills were particularly recognized by her supervisor as they help her to consistently create a positive and professional experience for internal stakeholders and external partners. Additionally, Jennifer’s business acumen has enabled her to effectively contribute to critical organizational initiatives.

Outside of her current role, Jennifer balances some of the responsibilities of her previous role as Executive Assistant as she aids NY Creates’ Senior Leadership team. She also co-hosts the NanoChat podcast where she helps to share insights into the groundbreaking work happening at Creates in an informative and engaging way. 👏

Real skills. Real labs. Real opportunities.

Students are exploring college-level technology curriculum while still in high school, gaining hands-on experience in AI, IT, robotics, and other emerging technologies through the Advanced Technology Framework, a partnership among the AFT, UFT - United Federation of Teachers, Micron Technology, and school districts across New York State.

This program is helping students discover the world of semiconductors through exposure to semiconductor R&D, fabs, cleanrooms, and the advanced technologies that power our everyday lives.

Whether they're interested in engineering, operating complex equipment, or pursuing careers as operations technicians, these experiences provide a launchpad to future success. NY Creates is excited to support high school programs by opening our R&D facility to help inspire the next generation of talent and create pathways to rewarding careers across the semiconductor ecosystem.

✈️ The future of engineering took flight!

Last week, NY Creates supported the Next Engineers Academy in partnership with College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at UAlbany (CNSE), GE, and miSci - Museum of Innovation & Science, Schenectady, where 30 rising high school juniors explored aeronautical and mechanical engineering through hands-on blimp design and racing.

Students also visited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Union College to learn about engineering programs, robotics, makerspaces, and 3D printing.

By combining experiential learning with exposure to higher education and engineering careers, programs like Next Engineers Academy will continue to inspire and prepare the next generation of STEM leaders.
