The Pratt & Whitney Model B Thread Miller.

In the world of manual machining, these are legendary. While a lathe uses a single-point tool to cut threads, this machine uses a rotating milling cutter to carve them. This allows for heavy, high-precision threads—like lead screws and worms—to be finished in a single pass.

The design is entirely mechanical. A series of change gears coordinates the workpiece rotation with the linear travel of the cutter to set the pitch. Built in Hartford, Connecticut, these massive cast-iron frames are famous for dampening vibration better than almost any modern equivalent.

Even at 80+ years old, these machines are still the gold standard for holding a "tenth" of accuracy on long-threaded parts.

Ever wonder why a brand-new auger looks like it just took a bath in syrup? 🍯⚙️

This isn't a mess—it’s a masterpiece of protection! During the manufacturing process, we coat these precision-engineered screws in a heavy-duty corrosion inhibitor.

Freshly machined steel is incredibly "hungry" for oxygen. Without this thick layer of protective grease (often called a slushing compound), the humidity in the air could cause flash rust before the part even leaves the factory floor.

This coating ensures that when it finally slides into its housing at the customer's site, those flights are as smooth and sharp as the day they were cut.
