CHECK YOUR STICKERS Is your car overdue for inspection or registration?

We are expecting a serious snow storm event starting tomorrow and lasting through most of the week here in Western New York. It is increasingly likely that, as with previous significant storms, the highways will be shut down, and hundreds of people will be stranded on the roads.
We advise you not to go out, you argue that your employer is making you come in, you leave anyway, and many of you get stranded on the way in. This happens every year. Not everyone can call out of work, but everyone can take a few minutes to pack a bag to be prepared.
If you must travel through hazardous conditions this week, consider carrying a small bag with you. Keep it somewhere near your car keys, so you remember it. When you come inside, it comes in with you. When you go back out, it goes with you.
Consider packing these items inside:
- a couple bottled waters
- high energy snacks (not a bunch of candy) like granola bars, a bag of pretzels, beef jerky sticks, trail mix, etc
- a phone charging cord that you can plug into your car
- a book or two
- an extra jacket (in addition to the one you're wearing) - an extra warm hat and pair of gloves
- any medication you may need over the next 48 hours
Fill up the gas tank before you venture out, and keep a couple blankets in the car as well. Ensure you have a snow brush and ice scraper to clear your car off.
Yeah, we know. You've read to this point and are rolling your eyes. "That's overkill," you mumble. Maybe, but if you find yourself stranded in a snowbank or on the 90 tomorrow evening, you'd probably wish you'd listened.
These are common items everyone has, that could make the difference between life and death if you become stranded.

Are you prepared? Jumper Cables or a Jump Box, kitty litter or sand tube, small or collapsible shovel in your trunk. Blanket, Candle, Flashlight, Snow Brush in your back seat. Simple things make sense for the winter season. Don't get stuck out in the cold.

Wilma Beyer, beloved wife of Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer (who founded Park Golf in America) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday March 24th. She remained a supportive force even after the passing of Founder Dick Beyer. Wilma will be dearly missed. 🙏❤️🥰

Tara N. Middaugh of Akron, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and children on March 21, 2025. Beloved wife of Michael R. Middaugh, Sr.; loving and adored mother of Casey Grace (Lucas) Wicks, Margaret Clare, and Michael Ray, Jr.; devoted daughter of Rita Whalen of Akron, and John and Mary Beth Whalen of Verbank, NY; beloved daughter-in-law to Nancy L. and the late Ray C. Middaugh; dearest sister to John Whalen III, Brendan Whalen, and Ann Whalen (Sean Cu***ng); Awesome Aunt Tara to 13 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.

The consummate volunteer, Tara served as a member of the APA Nursery School Board of Directors, Trustee for the Newstead Public Library, Fund Raising Co-Chair for the Newstead Historical Society, and spent countless hours assisting the Akron Lions Club and Akron-Newstead Rotary Club. A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Tara worked in the corporate world for over a decade but chose to prioritize her family, beginning her greatest accomplishment as a stay-at-home mother.

Tara enjoyed cooking for her family and for those in the community, spending time with her friends and loved ones, and planning events and dinners. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed travelling, especially family vacations to the Finger Lakes. Tara was known for her heart bigger than her petite stature. Her unwavering love and devotion to her husband and children will be her lasting legacy.

Friends and family may visit Ross Funeral Home at 10 Eckerson Ave. in Akron on Wednesday, March 26 from 4 pm – 8 pm and Thursday, March 27 from 2 pm – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Akron on Friday, March 28 at 10:00 am. A private graveside service will be held at Pioneer Cemetery on Hunts Corners Rd., Akron, NY.

Spring is right around the corner. April Showers are a good reason to change your wiper blades. I recommend RainX treatment on your windshield as well. Helps you see clearly on those rainy days.
