🔧 TECH TUESDAY: Spicer 18 Transfer Case Basics ⚙️
This week we’re covering the basics of operating the Willys Spicer 18 transfer case, including high and low range and two- and four-wheel drive.
For longtime Willys owners, this may be second nature. But for someone new to these Jeeps, or anyone who doesn’t use four-wheel drive very often, a quick refresher can be helpful!
⚙️ One important thing to remember: If your transfer case still has the factory interlock pill installed, you cannot shift directly from high range to low range while in two-wheel drive. You must first engage four-wheel drive before shifting into low range.
We also show a few items available from Kaiser Willys Auto Supply:
• Transfer case shift k***s (Part #915978) marked to show which lever controls which function
• Original-style factory drive flanges
• Premium aftermarket manual locking hubs (Part #400501)
Whether you’re learning your Willys for the first time or just need a refresher, knowing how to properly operate the transfer case is part of enjoying these old Jeeps!
