Groundwater Awareness Week Starts Today!

Test, Tend, and Treat Your Well This Groundwater Awareness Week!

1. Test your water annually for coliform bacteria and nitrates, and anything else of local concern. Additional tests may be recommended if water appears cloudy or oily, if bacterial growth is visible on fixtures, or water treatment devices are not working as they should.
2. Tend to your water well system in two critical ways: by hiring a certified water well contractor to inspect your system and perform any needed maintenance, and by keeping contamination sources far away from your well.
3. Treat your water if necessary–if a contamination problem cannot be eliminated by maintenance or moving the source farther from the well, treating the water may be your only option.
