ANTHRAX CRUSHES UPRISING IN TYRO
It was almost too easy for Home Front Color Studios Team Anthrax in their finale in the preliminary round of the 2026 Monteco Creations Limited/Tyro Sports Club Over 45 Windball Cricket Tournament, as they creamed basement-dwelling Uprising on Thursday night.
Both teams game into game already knowing their fate beyond the first round and were looking for some steam in their respective final matches before they pursue hardware.
Uprising won the toss and decided to bat. Brothers Lorne and Al La Borde have taken turns in being the danger men in the Uprising set up as of late. On Thursday, it was Lorne who was the thicker thorn in the side of the former champions.
He opened the inning and scored 32 runs, which laid the foundation for his team to finish at 74 for six. La Borde hit four boundaries in his inning and first of three Uprising sixes.
However, wickets meant more to Uprising in the inning, as they failed to take one when Anthrax embarked on their response.
Johan Henry had an uncharacteristically conflicting night, taking two wickets but for 24 runs in his two overs. He sought contribute to the victory effort by making up with the bat.
He opened the batting with Rayad Emrit and took back 16* runs from the Uprising bowlers.
It would be Emrit, who, himself, took one wicket for eight runs from his two overs, almost single-handedly sunk Uprising.
The first scoring shot that came from the first ball of the inning came off the bat of Emrit, off the bowling of Cyril Vincent, and went for the maximum. He would hit one two balls later and three total during his knock.
Four of his last five scoring shots sped to the boundary. He would hit seven in total on his way to scoring 57* runs off 26 deliveries.
Most unusual in the inning was the bowling of Allister Blackburn. Team Anthrax got to 77 without loss in 8.1 overs. Blackburn bowled a maiden in the seventh over.
The ten-wicket win put Team Anthrax on 24 points and had them switching places – fourth and fifth – with their first-round knockout opponents, Team Pro.
Uprising might not be too worried about finishing in twelfth place. Their first-round Consolation Plate knockout opponent is ninth-place Culture, who was their only victory.
The Tyro Recreation Ground will be filled with activities other than the Monteco Creations Limited/Tyro Sports Club Over 45 Windball Cricket Tournament over the Indian Arrival weekend and will resume on Monday with the final two first-round matches before the playoff begins on Saturday 6 June.
