On May 7th 2015, PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar turned the sod for the new Arima Hospital. A contract which was entrusted to China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Company Limited.

Persad-Bissessar said that "the Arima Hospital will add 150 beds to the healthcare system...” and was a part of her Government's push to improve the delivery of healthcare to the people of T&T. She stated "we understood that healthcare must be provided in a way that creates equity in access for all communities...”

Ambassador Huang stressed that leaders of both countries attached great importance to the project and the sod-turning was worth a celebration. The Chinese Government places the welfare of Trinidadian people as a priority, proceeds from the demands of the people and society, with the capital and technical resources put into areas mostly needed for livelihood-improvement and social development and aims to serve the key interests of both countries. Based on that, the future of bilateral cooperation will be even brighter.

Prime Minister Bissessar expressed her gratitude towards the Chinese Government on behalf of her Government and People for bringing this dream into reality, saying she was confident with China speed, China quality and China credit.
