📚 Last week, we concluded another ISO 18436-2 Vibration Analyst training course at our training centre here in Singapore, this time at the Category.III (CAT.III) level.

Vibration Analyst CAT.III is an advanced level training course which covers additional analysis techniques while developing our participants’ ability to connect multiple forms of vibration evidence, examine machinery behaviour from different perspectives and reach well-supported diagnostic conclusions. 🔍

Besides various vibration applications, the instructor also guided these participants to consider how the following areas work together to support a more comprehensive and reliable machinery diagnosis:

➡️ How data acquisition and signal processing affect the reliability of an analysis
➡️ How phase, spectral patterns, waveforms and orbits provide different forms of diagnostic evidence
➡️ How resonance, modulation, sidebands and non-synchronous frequencies can be interpreted
➡️ How machinery knowledge and testing methods support fault evaluation
➡️ How analytical findings can be translated into practical maintenance decisions

Nearing the end of the course, they developed their ability to progress from recognising vibration patterns, to investigating complex machinery behavior with greater depth, structure, and technical judgement.

We wish them the very best for the upcoming Category.III Vibration Analyst certification exam. 📝🍀

Vibtech Genesis is the appointed training representative for Vibration Institute USA in Singapore. Certification issued after the completion of the course and passing of the examination are therefore recognised globally. 🌏

🔍❓How much visibility do you have into the condition of motor-driven equipment in difficult-to-access or hazardous areas?

In oil and gas facilities, pumps, compressors, fans, and other motor-driven equipment support production continuity and safe operations.

⚠️ When an equipment in these facilities becomes unreliable, the effects can extend beyond maintenance. Developing faults can interrupt production, increase maintenance and energy costs, damage critical assets and, in more serious cases, contribute to safety or environmental incidents.

However, installing and maintaining vibration sensors on every machine is not always practical.

This is because some assets may be difficult to access, distributed across a large facility, or subject to strict safety and access requirements. These can make continuous monitoring difficult to implement across the full equipment population.

💡 There is another option.

The e-MCM is an AI-powered, sensorless condition monitoring system that does not require vibration sensors to be mounted directly on the machinery.

Instead, the system is installed at the motor’s electrical supply, where it analyses three-phase voltage and current data. From this single measurement point, the e-MCM monitors the motor and its connected equipment.

Its’ self-learning digital twin records how each machine operates across different loads and speeds. The e-MCM then assesses changes from this operating pattern for indications of key developing issues such as:

👉 Mechanical problems, including misalignment, unbalance and bearing deterioration
👉 Process-related conditions, including cavitation, flow restriction and abnormal loading
👉 Electrical faults affecting the motor or its supply circuit
👉 Operating inefficiencies that influence energy use, equipment performance and cost

The e-MCM does more than display measurements or generate condition alerts. It also reports the indicated fault, its severity, estimated time to failure and recommended corrective action, giving maintenance teams information to assess and act on.

For reliability, maintenance and operations leaders, this can practically support:

✅ Earlier maintenance planning
✅ Better prioritisation of labour and spare parts
✅ Less reliance on routine access to difficult equipment
✅ Fewer unnecessary alarms caused by normal changes in load and speed
✅ Improved visibility of equipment condition and operating efficiency
✅ Better-informed decisions before developing problems affect operations

Sensorless monitoring does not have to replace the condition-monitoring methods already used at a facility. The e-MCM can complement your established reliability programme by extending continuous monitoring to motor-driven assets where installing vibration sensors or carrying out frequent physical inspections is difficult.

The e-MCM provides AI-driven, sensorless condition monitoring to detect mechanical, electrical, and process faults in motor-driven equipment early.

📐📐Effective shaft alignment is more than obtaining a measurement, it also requires having a good understanding of the machinery condition, so appropriate measurement method can be selected, and the results can then be translated into the correct adjustment.

Following our client’s purchase of the Easy-Laser XT770 Shaft Alignment System through Vibtech Genesis, their on-site engineering team came for a one day intensive product training session this week, where the training combines theoretical and hands-on practical application of the XT770. 🔧

The team were guided through key areas of the alignment process such as:
✅ Setting up the measuring units correctly
✅ Selecting suitable measurement methods for different operating conditions
✅ Interpreting vertical and horizontal alignment results

The training objective was not only to familiarise them with the XT770 system, but also to help them develop the practical understanding needed to apply the system confidently and reliably in their maintenance work. 🎯

🤝 At Vibtech Genesis, our involvement extends beyond supplying equipment. We support our clients through implementation, technical guidance and practical training so that our product capabilities can be translated into effective maintenance action for them.

⚙️ All rotating machinery produces some level of vibration.⚠️Not all vibration, however, indicates a fault.

The real task is determining whether the vibration is abnormal, identifying its likely source or contributing causes, and using that evidence to select the appropriate corrective action.

🛠️ Last week, our service engineer was performing an in-situ balancing job on our client’s large industrial fan. Vibration sensors were positioned at key measurement points, while a phase-reference sensor was set up to track the rotor’s angular position. Using a portable vibration analyser, our engineer captured vibration amplitude and phase data at operating speed.

🔍 Rather than treating the vibration itself as the fault, our engineer interpreted the measurements to assess whether rotor imbalance was contributing to the abnormal vibration. In this case, the data indicated that it was.

Reference and trial-run measurements were then used to calculate the required balancing correction. After the correction was applied, verification measurements were taken to evaluate the fan’s response and confirm the effect of the adjustment.

✅ The balancing correction was therefore applied as a targeted response to an identified imbalance, not just simply because vibration was present.

Here is a look at our recent Easy-Laser XT440 product training session with our client’s engineering team. ⚙️

Utilising a shaft alignment test rig, our instructor showed the engineers on how the Easy-Laser XT440 is used to identify misalignment and guide the necessary machine adjustments. The engineers also had the opportunity to apply what they had learned during the hands-on session. 🛠️📐

Supplying the product is only one part of what we do. We also provide the proper training and technical guidance to help our client's engineers use it confidently for their maintenance work. 🤝✅
