Proud to be part of Singapore's aerospace community ✈️

This week, Lian Eng joined the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) as a member, and our Executive Director Joseph Tan attended the AAIS 24th Annual General Meeting at Boeing Singapore Training & Flight Services.

It was inspiring to see what makes Singapore's aerospace ecosystem so strong: companies, government and the Republic of Singapore Air Force all working together. We were privileged to witness the signing of the Addendum to the AAIS–RSAF MOU, a clear sign of how closely industry and the RSAF collaborate 🤝

A big thank you to Mr Chew Hwee Yong, Chief Executive of AAIS, for his warm welcome and guidance. Hwee Yong has a rare gift for bringing people together, and the energy in the room showed it. AAIS is in very capable hands.

Thank you also to President Mr Wong Yue Jeen and the AAIS Management Committee 2025/27 for their leadership, and congratulations to the newly elected committee members 👏

What could 3D printing do for a conveyor company? Quite a lot, it turns out 🔧

Last night, our Executive Director Kelvin Tan, Co-CEO of our Conveyors & Automation division, and Darrell Nathan, our Head of Technical Division, attended the NAMIC (National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster) AM Industry Connect 2026/27 Dinner.

The room brought together technology innovators, manufacturers, research institutions including A*STAR, and industry leaders from across the region.

We went with an open mind and a few clear questions:
🔹 Can 3D printing help us make customised conveyor components and replacement parts faster?
🔹 How can rapid prototyping shorten the time from idea to working solution for our customers?
🔹 Where can new manufacturing technologies cut lead times and reduce our reliance on conventional machining and overseas sourcing?
🔹 Which partners can help us grow into aerospace, precision engineering and advanced manufacturing?

A highlight of the evening was catching up with Mr Chew Hwee Yong, Chief Executive of the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore).

Before taking the helm at AAIS last December, Hwee Yong was Director of the Partners Division at Enterprise Singapore, working closely with trade associations, chambers and SME Centres. Through the TAC and partnership programmes, he helped many SMEs grow, and Lian Eng is proud to be one of them. His guidance and counsel have shaped how we think about growth, and we are truly grateful 🙏

An engineer by training, with experience spanning EDB, Enterprise Singapore and industry, Hwee Yong brings the steady, well-connected leadership that Singapore's aerospace community needs as it builds for the future. AAIS is in very good hands ✈️

We also enjoyed meeting the team from UNITECH3DP from South Korea, who specialise in moldless metal 3D casting and aluminium prototypes 🇰🇷

For 72 years, Lian Eng has been known for conveyors, belts and power transmission. That foundation isn't going anywhere. But our customers' needs are changing, and we want to grow with them, into a broader engineering, automation and industrial solutions partner 🚀

Great partnerships aren't built overnight. They're built over decades (almost 50 years) of showing up for each other 🤝

Today we welcomed Mr Shigenori Nakasho, Managing Director of Bando (Singapore), and Mr Chua Joo Kiah (JK) to our new Tuas facility. It was their first visit since we moved in, and it meant a lot to have them here.

Kelvin and I took them around the whole building: the warehouse, the dormitory floors, and up to the roof, where you can see how far Lian Eng has come 🏭

What I enjoyed most was the conversation. No slides, no hard sell. Just honest talk about the market, what our customers need, and where we want to take this partnership over the next ten years.

We left with a lot of energy and a few exciting ideas. One of them: turning our new building into a real home for the Bando brand, a place where customers can walk in, see the products and pick them up.

Most people know Bando for V-belts and timing belts. Not many know how much more Bando Chemical Industries makes in Japan. We'd love to help change that 🇯🇵

Lian Eng has worked with Bando for almost 5 decades. Relationships like this one, built on trust, consistency and real respect, are what keep a family business strong across generations.

Changi Terminal 5 is a mega project, and it needs a baggage handling system (BHS) to match. Here is how Lian Eng is getting ready 🧳✈️

T5 will be as big as all of Changi's current terminals combined, serving more than 50 million more passengers a year when it opens in the 2035. Every one of those bags will ride on conveyors that someone has to lift, install, align, test and support, in the day and in the night and to the minute.

Today, our team gave up their Saturday to plan 2027 to 2029. T5 was at the centre of the conversation 📅

We are not starting from zero. Our crews already work in all live terminals at Changi for several years:

🧳 BHS conveyor installations and BHS related works at Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4, including check-in rows.
🏗️ PE-endorsed support steel and platforms for BHS conveyors
🚚 Supply chain and logistics for BHS equipment, from warehouse to terminals
🏋️ Qualified lifting teams: lifting supervisors, riggers and signalmen
🛻 CAG-approved vehicles and drivers for terminal works

But a mega project is not just "more of the same". It needs a different level of readiness. Here is what we are building now, years before peak installation:

👷 People first: training more supervisors and installers today, so they are experienced by the time T5 needs them
🦺 Safety at scale: CAG and MOM compliance, lifting plans and toolbox talks that work for 10 people or for many crews across many zones
📋 Systems that scale: ISO 9001 quality management, ISO22301 Business Continuity Managament System, bizSAFE, method statements and QA records ready before we start
🏭 A base for it all: our new Lian Eng Group facility in Tuas, to fabricate, stage and store BHS mechanical and electrical elements , steelworks and components
🔁 Staying power: T5 is a multi-year programme, so we are planning manpower, equipment and supervision for the long haul, not one job

At the same time, we are getting ready for the Terminal 3 upgrades and a wave of automated warehouses and logistics hubs across the region 🏭

We started in 1954 as a small hardware shop on Victoria Street. Three generations later, we are preparing to play our part in one of the world's great airport projects. That is a responsibility we take seriously.

Great to have the Gates team with us in Tuas! 🤝😊

This week, we welcomed Alfred Tan (Sales Manager) and Nantanit Techawattanasate (Marketing Manager, ASEAN), who flew in from Thailand 🇹🇭✈️

Our Business Manager, Tan Yew Kong, showed them around our new Lian Eng Group building at 13 Tuas Avenue 14 🏢🧡💙

Then we sat down to plan new marketing initiatives that will help more customers in Singapore get the right Gates power transmission solutions ⚙️📣

**Knowledge is the strongest tool we carry!** 💪📚

This week, the Lian Eng team rolled up our sleeves for an in-depth **Gates Power Transmission training**, delivered entirely in Mandarin! 🇨🇳🎤

Our trainer, **Selvem Liu**, brings more than **16 years of Gates experience** 🏆. He flew in from China and spent the day with our team ✈️. That says a lot about the partnership we share with Gates, and we are truly grateful 🤝❤️

We went back to the fundamentals of V-belts ⚙️. For each belt type, we looked at how it is built, where it performs best, and why the right choice matters on the plant floor:
🔹 Classical wrapped belts
🔹 Narrow wedge belts
🔹 Banded belts
🔹 Raw-edge cogged belts
🔹 Variable-speed belts
🔹 Hexagonal belts

Anyone can read a product spec off a datasheet 📄. Knowing how to apply it well comes from sessions like this 🧠✨. When a customer asks why one belt beats another, we want to answer with confidence and back it up with facts ✅

Every bag at a Changi Airport Terminal travels through a baggage handling system (BHS) that runs on industrial belts. Nobody thinks about the conveyor belt or automation system unless it stops.

That is our work.

Lian Eng started in 1954, supporting Singapore's factories, plants and facilities. We entered industrial belting in the 1970s. Conveyors and automation came only in the last ten years — building systems rather than only supplying parts. Changi Airport’s baggage handling systems (BHS) at T1 - T4 became part of our work.

None of that arrived because of luck. Each step took years of investment before anyone gave us the job.

Today our Director Joseph Tan joined more than 1,000 business leaders at Singapore Expo for the SME Centre Conference 2026 — Vision to Action: AI Adoption for SMEs.

SMS Ms Low Yen Ling announced BizSG, live 30 September. It uses AI to recommend the government support that actually fits your business, instead of leaving you to search across agencies. The new EDGE grant starts the same day, combining several existing schemes across 150+ activities. Her words: a "trusted digital concierge for SMEs."

That is great support for SMEs like

Changi Airport’s new T5 is coming, with a baggage handling system at a scale Singapore has not operated before. Distribution centres are getting bigger. Food and advanced manufacturing plants want more integration, not less.

🚀✨ Big ideas. Bright energy. A day well spent.

Our Co-Director Joseph Tan spent the afternoon at the North West Corporate Exchange: AI Frontier at Republic Polytechnic — and came back inspired.

Mayor Alex Yam opened the day with a simple but powerful message: smarter growth is within reach for every SME willing to lean in.

Then Vincent Lim (Senior Lecturer, PAT 2024 Finalist, UiPath Visionary Educator) took the stage with a talk that really landed — "Solving Real-World Business Problems with AI Agents Today." Not someday. Today. 💡

For a company (Lian Eng) built on 70+ years of engineering heart, that's exciting news. It tells us AI isn't just for the big players — it's a tool we can use too, to work smarter, grow stronger, and serve our customers even better.

The day also reminded us why community matters so much. Lian Eng has been proud to support South West CDC's initiatives under Mayor Low Yen Ling. Today, Joseph got to connect with Mayor Alex Yam on doing the same with North West CDC. Same spirit, new friends. 🤝
