SAYES stands for Singapore Academy of Youth Engineers and Scientists, and is a new initiative spearheaded by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Science Centre Singapore (SCS). SAYES seeks to inspire the youth of today to develop and hone their skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related subjects, provide a conducive environment to facilitate
that objective and eventually hand them the resources to start their own science clubs and enhance the level of STEM in Singapore. Members will be tasked to find ways not only to improve themselves but to lead others in finding creative means to further the state of STEM in Singapore. Members will be given mentorships and consultations based upon a case by case basis, and will consequently provide a similar service to the newer generations as they progress and develop with SAYES. Assignments are largely project based. There will be a number of projects and activities designed to impart and enhance critical skills, and will form the foundation for members to propose their own projects and initiatives. Members will be required to be able to explain all aspects of their proposed projects every step of the way to fruition. Above all, SAYES was created to give youth with an unquenchable drive and passion in STEM topics a head start in STEM while at the same time helping to raise awareness about STEM in Singapore.
