At LKH Precicon, sustainability is one of the three pillars of our 3S strategy: Smart, Secure and Sustainable. We believe these pillars can’t be separated. A factory can’t be truly sustainable unless it is also smart enough to measure, optimise and control its energy use, and secure enough to run that intelligence safely across OT and IT.

So we’re proud that our Principal Consultant, Colin koh , contributed to the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) white paper “Electrification of Industrial Heat: Singapore’s Strategic Pathway to Decarbonisation, Competitiveness, and Energy Security.” He worked alongside industry leaders from Siemens, DNV, KPMG, HCL Tech, Bosch, ClimateCrafters Asia, Northmore Gordon and Luhn.

Why this matters: Singapore’s industrial sector uses about 40% of the nation’s electricity and 90% of its end-use natural gas, much of it for process heat. The carbon tax is now S$45/tCO₂e and is headed toward S$50–80 by 2030. Meanwhile, every gas boiler installed today locks in 15–25 years of fossil-fuel dependence.

Key insights from the paper:
🔹 The technology is ready. Industrial heat pumps, electric boilers and MVR can already serve most process heat below 200°C.
🔹 The barriers are economic and institutional, not technical. Tariff structures, financing costs and incentive design still favour gas.
🔹 Digital intelligence multiplies the returns. AI optimisation has shown 5–25% gains in heat pump COP, and digital twins let plants simulate electrification before committing capital.
🔹 Data infrastructure comes first. Sub-metering, edge connectivity, process historians and open protocols such as OPC UA and MQTT are prerequisites, not a parallel track.

That last point is where Smart, Secure and Sustainable meet. Electrification is not just a hardware swap. It is a systems redesign that depends on the industrial automation, connectivity and controls we help manufacturers build every day.

The paper sets out a practical agenda for both policymakers and industry leaders. It covers feasibility programmes, electrification-ready specifications, tariff reform, Heat-as-a-Service financing and a Jurong Island demonstration programme.

Today, LKH Precicon had the pleasure of hosting 15 engineers from Frencken, in a learning session organised by our valued partner, Singapore Polytechnic.
