Shou Sugi Residence by Type0 Architects
A home’s restoration and transformation through a holistic approach to material, light, sustainability and space.
Retaining the original structure, Type0 reimagined the residence with a new architectural language — wrapping its facade in charred Accoya timber using the traditional Japanese shou sugi ban technique. Beyond its distinctive character, the carbonised surface adds durability and protection against Singapore’s tropical climate.
Inside, the darker timber palette is balanced by the natural textures of our
Grigio Olivo limestone and muted Blu St Blaise stone, bringing a quiet sense of refinement throughout the home.
A thoughtful composition of authentic materials, where architecture recedes and the experience of living takes centre stage.
