There are many examples of this.

One is when each part needs to have a unique shape, but there is still a need for volume production. Hearing aids is a perfect example.

Today, over 90% of the world’s hearing aids are 3D printed. In this case it makes sense to 3D print, as each hearing aid casing is patient-specific. 🦻

Comparing Cost to produce 1 part
- CNC Machining vs 3D Printing

While the material cost for both parts is similar (around €30), production costs vary significantly.

CNC Machining (Aluminium):
- Setup, operation, and milling: ~€500 per part
- Ideal for high-volume production, as cost per part decreases with quantity

3D Printing (Carbon-filled nylon):
- Production cost: ~€50 per part
- More cost-effective for prototypes, spare parts, tooling, or low-volume production

In short: CNC is great for scale, but for smaller batches, 3D Printing is often the more economical choice.
