How robust is your silica gel cleanup when environmental extracts contain high concentrations of polar interferences? 🌱

This application note explores an automated EPA Method 3630C cleanup workflow for total petroleum hydrocarbon analysis. Using silica SPE, the method retained polar interferences while preserving the nonpolar hydrocarbons measured by GC-FID.

Even when soil samples were spiked with high concentrations of decanoic acid, no reverse-surrogate breakthrough was detected, while DRO, MRO, and surrogate recoveries remained within the applicable acceptance criteria.
