"Railing connector". Made from stainless steel scrap (square tubing). Tools: hack saw, angle grinder, vise, hammer and drill. Sorry for the AI-looking surface of the parts - had to remove some spiderweb and dirt from the photos. :)

If I couldn't reach the stuffing box nut, I understand why my father, 81 years of age, wanted a 48 mm (1,9") 1 m (3,5') long wrench for Christmas. Not so good looking, but works fine. (Bad photo of the mahogany, the rest of the boat is actually in pretty good shape for being 60 years old.)
