Respiratory motion is one of the most common challenges in abdominal and chest MRI.

When a patient breathes during an un-gated scan, the anatomy moves during image acquisition.
This can create severe wave-like artifacts across the image and reduce diagnostic image quality.

In this video, we show exactly how breathing affects MRI images, why breath-hold instructions matter, and how respiratory gating helps create sharp and static abdominal images.

๐Ÿ’ก ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐˜๐—ผ:

1. Identify respiratory motion artifacts in MRI images.
2. Understand why free breathing creates wave-like artifacts.
3. Compare breath-hold scans after exhale and inhale.
4. See how liver and lung position changes with breathing.
5. Understand why localizers must match the breathing mode of the full protocol.
6. Learn how respiratory gating reduces motion artifacts.
7. Compare free-breathing MRI with respiratory-gated MRI.

Cardiac motion is one of the biggest challenges in cardiac MRI. Because the heart moves continuously, MRI data can be acquired at different points in the cardiac cycle, which can create severe blur and reduce diagnostic image quality.

In this video, we show exactly how physiological motion affects cardiac MRI images, why ECG-gating is needed, and how cardiac gating helps create a sharp and static image of the heart.

Concatenations solve a key limitation in MRI: we cannot acquire all slices within a single repetition time (TR).

So we split slices into groups.
Each group is acquired in separate TR cycles.

This parameter directly affects scan time, efficiency, and feasibility of your protocol.

In this tutorial, you will clearly understand how concatenations work, how scanners calculate them, and how they impact your final acquisition time.

โฑ๏ธ ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚'๐—น๐—น ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป:

- Why multi-slice acquisitions require concatenations
- How slice grouping works across TR intervals
- The relationship between concatenations and scan time
- Why increasing concatenations increases total scan time
- The full scan time equation including concatenations
- How scanners automatically calculate optimal concatenations
- How to manually adjust concatenations for clinical needs
- How to calculate slices per TR using TR, turbo factor, and echo spacing
- Real example: 27-slice brain acquisition requiring 2 concatenations
- How increasing TR (e.g., 800 ms at 3T) reduces concatenations
- How reducing concatenations cuts scan time from 1:04 to 51.2 seconds

๐Ÿฅ ๐—–๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—œ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜:
Understanding concatenations helps you balance scan time and image quality.

For example, reducing concatenations from 2 to 1 in a brain TSE scan can cut scan time by over 20%, without changing slice coverage.

This is critical in busy clinical workflows where every second matters.

But remember:
Always optimize for image quality and contrast first.
Then optimize scan time.

He showed that by introducing magnetic field gradients, you could encode spatial information into an NMR signal and reconstruct a 2D image. The same principle that every MRI scanner in the world still uses today.

Nature had actually rejected the paper first. Lauterbur revised, resubmitted, and got it published. Editors later ranked it among the 21 most influential papers Nature published that century.

Today, over 100 million MRI scans are performed annually worldwide.

At Corsmed, our MRI simulator is built on this same physics that Lauterbur unlocked 52 years ago.

Here's to the discoveries that changed medicine forever! ๐Ÿงฒ
