From Climate Week NYC to COP31: A shift from ambition to delivery

New York Climate Week has concluded, and the attention now turns to COP31, this year held in Antalya, Türkiye between 9-20 November 2026.

Alfa Laval stands at the intersection of three of the most critical challenges on the global climate agenda: accelerating energy efficiency, scaling biosolutions and resilient food systems, and building the digital infrastructure the transition depends on.

With COP31 Türkiye on the horizon, the conversations that started in New York on energy efficiency, electrification, and investable action now carry forward onto a global stage.

Dairy agitator boosts energy efficiency 🥛

When Molkerei Wiegert Dairy first heard that Alfa Laval’s side-mounted agitator could reduce energy use significantly, the team asked for proof. They launched a three-month trial installation to evaluate performance under real operating conditions.

The results exceeded expectations. The agitator reduced energy consumption by more than 75% while maintaining consistent mixing quality. Lower energy use also helped reduce CO₂ emissions and operating costs, with a calculated payback period of just 2.8 years.

🏝️ Cooling an entire island with one heat exchanger model

The Pearl is a man-made island close to the centre of Qatar’s capital Doha, covering almost 4 million square metres. Instead of each building relying on its own conventional cooling system, an integrated district cooling plant supplies cooling throughout the development.

Alfa Laval delivered 122 T20 plate heat exchangers to handle the full range of cooling loads. The system achieves a temperature approach of 1.1°C.

For residents, this means that cooling can be used according to actual needs, resulting in substantial energy savings, while lower noise and vibration make indoor spaces more comfortable. Behind the scenes, using one heat-exchanger model also makes operation, maintenance and spare-parts handling more straightforward.

Alfa Laval initiates full integration of Desmet to strengthen oils, fats and biofuel segments

Alfa Laval is initiating the process of fully integrating Desmet, bringing the two organizations and capabilities closer together as one strong global partner in process engineering solutions for the oils, fats and biofuel industries.

Alfa Laval acquired Desmet in 2022, including the operational units and brands of RoseDowns and Stolz, and Desmet has since then operated as a separate entity.

When fully integrated, Desmet and Alfa Laval will create a unique position across the technology value chain, from seed to end product, supporting the oils, fats and biofuel industries in transitioning to more-sustainable production, more profitably and at scale.

Electrification, electrification, electrification.
That was on everyone’s radar at the New York Climate Week this year.

Energy efficiency is crucial to enable electrification. It is a strategic pathway for energy security, affordability, and industrial competitiveness.

Energy efficiency also remains the fastest, most cost-effective solution for reducing costs, emissions, and strengthening system resilience.

Collaboration between governments, industry, and financial institutions is essential to unlock investments to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency solutions.
