New EU legislation on vehicle circularity is accelerating the transformation of our industry. Through the revised ELV framework, requirements on reuse, recycling and recovery are increasing - alongside extended producer responsibility and a broader scope across vehicle types.

Dismantling is no longer just an operational step. It’s becoming a critical part of the circular value chain. Autocirc Finland is proud to collaborate with Turku University of Applied Sciences in a research project focused on exploring how dismantling processes must evolve to meet future demands ✨

Together with partners across the value chain, in this case including Valmet Automotive, the project explores how dismantling can become more:
• Efficient and scalable
• Data-driven and standardised
• Aligned with upcoming regulatory requirements

By combining practical expertise from Autocirc’s operations with academic research, we are taking important steps towards a more standardised, transparent, and circular value chain for vehicles, says Henna Knuutila, Senior Lecturer at Turku University of Applied Sciences and project leader.

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆!

Vehicle dismantling has now been recognised as its own vocational field in Norway - and we are proud to see this happen ✨

In collaboration with Norwegian Car Recyclers, industry organisations and trade unions, the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training has established a completely new vocational programme: VG3 Vehicle Dismantling.

Why does this matter? Because our work is about much more than dismantling vehicles. Every day, we work with:
• Environmental decontamination and proper handling of hazardous materials
• Quality assessment of used parts for reuse
• Logistics and sales
• Regulations and sustainability

This requires specialised expertise that traditional automotive education does not fully cover - and now it is finally receiving the recognition it deserves.

For us, this creates better opportunities to recruit, train and retain skilled professionals. It means a more professional industry, and it enables us to deliver even higher quality to our customers.

Every reused car part has a story.

It begins when an end-of-life or damaged vehicle arrives at one of our centres - like Caréco Molins - Autocirc in France, part of Autocirc.

Our French insurance partner Groupe Covéa recently came to see this journey first-hand, and together with our Manon Molins they show how reused parts move from a retired vehicle to giving new life to another car.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 - 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 ✨

In the image, you see the inside of a car door. Our dismantlers have written three different dismantling numbers on it, at different points in time.

This means the same door has been used in three different vehicles. That’s what we call reuse!

By giving a car door a new life, we avoid around 113 kilos of CO₂e emissions - equal to the footprint of driving about 94 km by car.

In this way, we contribute to lower climate impact - again and again 🌱

This reflects how we have built capacity to meet customer needs across Norway 🇳🇴

The facility in Vestby has been in operation for two years, allowing us to reach 80% of our customers in Norway within 24 hours. At the same time, it strengthens logistics and boosts the reuse of auto parts across the Nordics and Europe, making reuse more accessible, lowering costs and helping keep cars on the road for longer.

This is also reflected in how the facility is used today.
“Since we put Vestby into full operation, we have scaled up our handling capacity significantly, and our partners now use it as a centralised storage hub to unlock greater production potential across all facilities”, says Bjarte Kaldestad, Country Manager Norway.

IARC 2026 - the International Automotive Recycling Congress was successfully organised by ICM AG last week in Hamburg ✨

A significant conference where nearly 300 decision-makers from the automotive and recycling sectors came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping the industry.

“IARC plays an important role in bringing together stakeholders in the automotive industry, and it’s valuable to hear different perspectives and expectations. These discussions clearly show that the transformation is not only ahead of us - it is already happening today,” says Hugues Delval, CEO at Autocirc.

But what does this amount of CO₂e actually represent?

To put it into perspective, it corresponds to:
• Emissions from a Boeing 747 flying 55 times around the globe ✈️
• Driving an average petrol car approximately 1 560 times around the globe 🌍
• The amount of CO₂ absorbed by 1 256 610 mature trees in 10 years 🌳

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Japanese company Mitsui & Co, Ltd and its overseas office Mitsui & Co Deutschland GmbH to our headquarters in Sweden ✨

The visit marks an exciting step in strengthening international collaboration around circular solutions in the automotive industry. By sharing know-how both companies can progress its respective circular solutions while exploring joint opportunities like advancing the recycling and reuse of plastics.

As the industry continues to evolve, partnerships like this are key to unlocking new ways of reducing waste, preserving resources, and building a more sustainable value chain.

“Visits like this bring new perspectives and open up opportunities for finding new solutions for reaching a sustainable automotive aftermarket together,” says Jennica Thorin, COO at Autocirc Group, joined by Tomas Haglund-Flemström, Head of Ecosystem and Raw Material Recycling.

𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 - 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲 🌍

At Autocirc, we start by making sure that as many parts as possible are reused, remanufactured or repurposed. Once every possible component has been given a new chance, recycling takes over.

Working with our recycling partners, up to 95% of a vehicle can be recycled. Metals, plastics and other valuable materials are recovered and reintroduced into new production, including within the automotive industry - ensuring that even what cannot be reused continues to create value.

Today is Global Recycling Day, created in 2018 to recognise the important role recycling plays in meeting the growing demand for raw materials while helping to protect our planet.

For us, this day is an opportunity to highlight how damaged vehicles can become valuable resources in a circular economy rather than becoming waste 🌱

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲? 💡

Reusing an engine makes a real difference. By giving it a new life, our customers avoid around 650-700 kilos of CO₂e emissions - equal to the footprint of driving about 540 km by car (figure calculated according to our methodology report).

This is a clear example of how circular economy works in practice. When we reuse instead of producing new, we not only save money and materials - we also avoid climate impact in a measurable way.

For insurers and workshops, this means both business value and sustainability. For society, it means taking a step towards a more resource-efficient automotive industry.

At Autocirc, we see every engine, gearbox, and car door as an opportunity for all of us to take part in the circular transition. 🌱
