Asked about investing in people beyond the purely technical demands of a job, Prof. Abdelal shared a thought we have been reflecting on since:

Since the beginning, SOFMEDICA has invested in people as one of the strongest foundations for long-term impact in healthcare.

As our organization has grown, so has the need for broader expertise, more diverse skills, and continuous learning across our teams. Over the past four years, we have continued to 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, from product training and soft skills workshops to renowned business school programs and personal coaching.

Through this journey, we came to understand that what we were building was more than a collection of training activities. It was the beginning of a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 designed specifically for healthcare, for our people, and for the future of care in our region.

To take this vision further, we are pleased to welcome Stavroula Samara BSc, M.A., 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔.

Stavroula joins us to design and coordinate a holistic annual education program, created for the professionals who want to grow with us, strengthen their capabilities, and contribute meaningfully to the transformation of healthcare across New Europe.

The discussion highlighted an important perspective: when highly skilled professionals return home, their impact goes beyond individual careers or employers. They 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 that can strengthen entire communities, industries, and countries.

The impact of returning talent becomes even stronger when it is 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. In the countries where we are active, individual expertise can become part of a 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁, strengthening healthcare ecosystems through 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, and the belief that 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 is greater when countries grow together.

Because the future of healthcare will not be built by countries working separately, or by smaller markets only supplying talent to more developed systems. It will be built by 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, and the 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

More than a technological milestone, this launch is 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: supporting access in Romania to less invasive surgical options, designed to reduce surgical trauma, support faster recovery, and help patients return sooner to their daily lives.

The 𝗱𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶™ 𝗦𝗣 system enables surgeons to perform complex minimally invasive procedures through a single skin incision of approximately 2.5 cm. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁, it integrates an articulating 3DHD camera and multiple wristed instruments, designed to support precision and flexibility, especially in narrow anatomical spaces.

By combining medical education, live surgery, advanced technology, and national collaboration, this launch represents an important step in the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮, and in enabling Romanian patients to benefit from groundbreaking medical innovation.

On 25 February 2026, at 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻, 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮, the Gynecology and Urology teams reached a clear operational milestone in da Vinci™ robotic-assisted surgery: ten robotic procedures completed in a single day.

This level of performance was delivered using three da Vinci X Systems, all owned by the hospital. It signals more than clinical performance. It signals local capacity and program maturity, because high throughput in robotic surgery is never “just volume.” It is the outcome of planning, discipline, and a team operating with shared standards.

In many markets, progress in robotic surgery is still measured in “firsts”: the first system, the first case, the first specialty. Those moments matter. But once the novelty fades, the real question becomes different: can the program scale without losing what made it safe and successful in the first place?

The mix achieved in Pleven, nine gynecology cases and one urology case, delivered across three systems, shows a program that is moving beyond isolated success and into repeatable performance.

A new chapter in minimally invasive prostate cancer treatment has begun in Hungary. The 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 Focal One 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 were successfully performed at 𝗦𝘁. 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆 marking an important step forward in expanding access to advanced, organ-preserving therapies.
