For the first time, STRONGHOLD is bringing a new Roasting Championship to coffee communities around the world.

And yes, Romania is one of the stops.

The coffee scene in Romania has been constantly evolving, so it was only natural for us to join and support a new challenge and another opportunity for growth within our community.

The Romanian competition will take place at Slow Coffee Festival , a fitting place for it, as Slow began 10 years ago as a space to launch the first AeroPress Championship in Romania.

Ten years later, the industry has changed, grown and found new ways to compete, connect and push coffee forward.

Now, we’re bringing another kind of competition to the community: roasting, live and in front of an audience.

Last Saturday, Lulu.z brought the beach to the middle of Bucharest.

Together with Oatly, we spent the afternoon experimenting with the new Popcorn and Coconut editions, creating drinks, sharing popcorn and turning the cafe into a little beach escape.

We were happy to be part of it and to bring Oatly’s latest flavours to life alongside one of our partners.

3 underrated cafe upgrades that are actually worth it, Part II.

01 Water filtration

Water isn’t just about protecting your espresso machine from scale. Its mineral composition directly affects extraction, flavour and consistency.

Depending on your incoming water, you may need to reduce certain minerals or balance/mineralise the water. Each set up differs so each filter solution should be adapted.

One thing that’s easy to overlook: filter capacity is based on water volume, not time. A high-volume place can reach its filter capacity much earlier than the recommended calendar date.

02 Milk pitcher rinser

If you’re rinsing pitchers in the sink between drinks, you’re using more water, adding steps to your workflow and giving milk time to dry onto the pitcher.

A rinser is particularly useful when you’re pushing a lot of milk drinks during busy periods allowing you to clean pitchers immediately.

03 Cleaning products

Coffee oils and residue build up throughout the day. Cleaning isn’t just about keeping the machine looking good, it helps prevent old coffee residue from affecting flavour and keeps equipment performing properly.

01 Water filtration

Good water isn’t just important for what’s in the cup. The right filtration helps protect your equipment, control scale and keep your water consistent.

02 Milk pitcher rinser

One of those upgrades that seems unnecessary until you’ve used one. Faster rinsing, less water waste and no dried milk building up on pitchers during service.

03 Proper cleaning products

Your espresso machine gets a lot more abuse than it looks like. Regular cleaning helps keep performance consistent and protects the equipment you’ve already invested in.

Built around the concept Roasting for Everyone, SRC brings together creativity, precision and learning in a championship where every competitor roasts on the Stronghold S2.

The winner will become the first SRC National Champion of Romania and represent the country at the Stronghold Roasting Championship Global Final 2026 in Seoul.
