👷‍♀️ Closing the gender gap in technical professions!

Many initiatives around the world, such as "Girls in Hard Hats" and "Women in Construction" are creating a clearer path for closing the gender gap in technical vocational education and professions. Their success is based on:

- Early exposure/ School pilotings
- Visible role models
- Peer networks during training

Through SECOVE, we are trying to implement similar strategies to ensure the attraction of more women technical professions! 💪

📊 IEA report: Clean energy jobs over fossil fuels

The International Energy Agency's latest report reveals that: Clean energy now accounts for over half of all energy employment globally. Jobs in sustainable energy sectors are showing growth, while traditional roles are decreasing.

This gives emphasis to one of SECOVE’s main goals: We want to prepare the future workforce for where the jobs are. 📈

📉 Girls in STEM education

The gender gap is larger between the ages of 15-18, as stereotypes and the lack of visible pathways push girls and women away from technical professions.

There is a need for concrete interventions that connect STEM education to real-life problems and showcase diverse role models.

Through SECOVE, we are trying to create clear pathways to attract more girls and women to become high-skilled technical professionals. 🔧

In SECOVE, we have integrated Virtual Reality (VR) technology to our Sustainable technology e-learning courses in order to create immersive learning environments.

Participants can choose from 5 categories of VR scenarios:
✅ Smart buildings
✅ Vegetated roofs
✅ Smart homes
✅ Solar energy technics
✅ Green roofs

The VR experience aims for a higher skills development. The use of VR technologies brings a modern approach to sustainable energy education and provides access to complex scenarios.

Measures in this revised EU strategy include:

📆 No passado dia 12 de março, a Energaia, em colaboração com os seus parceiros ISEP, INOVA+ e OMEGAFLOW, promoveu um evento de destaque nas instalações do ISEP, no âmbito do projeto europeu SECOVE – Sustainable Energy Centres of Vocational Excellence 🌱.
🎯 Sob o mote “Alinhamento de Competências entre Centros de Formação e Empresas: Fomentar Parcerias para Responder às Necessidades do Mercado de Trabalho”, o evento reuniu várias empresas privadas e centros de formação, com o objetivo de reforçar o diálogo entre o sector empresarial e o sistema de ensino profissional, promovendo parcerias estratégicas para uma formação mais ajustada às necessidades reais do mercado.
💬 A sessão incluiu uma mesa-redonda com espaço para a partilha de desafios, oportunidades e identificação de caminhos para o desenvolvimento de formação em contexto de trabalho, como estágios, programas de aprendizagem e outras formas de colaboração.
🤝 Com a excelente participação e envolvimento ativo dos presentes, confirmou-se a importância e urgência de promover redes colaborativas que aproximem a educação das necessidades reais das empresas.

💡Advantages: Developing a green and sustainable software

The development of these softwares is carried out consuming less computational resources and, therefore, less energy⚡, which is usually translated into optimizations in the code and in the use of servers.

Also, in relation to hardware, techniques are usually implemented to reduce the use of unnecessary hardware, prolonging the useful life of devices and the generation of electronic waste.

👉 Developing green and sustainable has several important advantages, such as the minimization of the consumption of resources (energy and materials), which helps to reduce the footprint and environmental impact.

They also tend to be more maintainable and adaptable to future changes, which can extend its life and reduce the need for constant replacements.

Developing these types of with green and sustainable software improves the public image and can attract consumers and customers who value environmental , in addition to 📝 complying with the increasing number of sustainability that exist.

Therefore, we believe that the project is a perfect scenario to promote awareness of sustainability in the field of software development, both among developers and end users, and thus contribute to a more sustainable future, ✒️ reducing the carbon footprint associated with the use of and improving in the consumption of resources.
