Training messer “Krojcok”

After many tests, I’m presenting my new messer. Hidden beneath the classic hilt is an unusual mounting system. The grip scales are screwed onto a tang-mounted rail and are then secured by the pommel at the end of the tang. This allows the weapon to be disassembled for cleaning and makes it possible to replace individual components while preserving the characteristic features of a traditional messer hilt.

Additionally, this particular version features an etched wolf skin woman, designed by Ina Ross

“Syrenka” Dusack

Based on my “Osówka” blades, I’ve been experimenting with different types of fittings. This time, I wanted to return to the dusack in a more hybrid form.

The removable shell allows the sword to be significantly lighter and lets it be used more like a far-balanced sabre. I’m also very happy with the double-sided etching done by my friend Ina Ina Ross The name of this particular piece comes from the figure depicted in the etching.

“Osówka” Training Sabre
The first of a series of sabres of this type, here featuring a hilt inspired by the Polish “L style” sabre. Osówka is more of a concept: a forward-balanced sabre with a modular hilt design. In the following posts, I’ll be showing various interpretations of the same concept.
The base is a wide, 6 mm thick blade with a fuller and an enlarged forte. The tip is always at least 6×8mm.
Most often, the blade is fitted with a simple and lightweight hilt based around a knuckle bow and a minimalist pommel, although I’ve already shown (and will soon be showing) some dussack variations as well.

Żądło III Training Sabre
This is already the third (I'm not sure if that's a good thing!) iteration of my very first HEMA sabre design. After a lot of testing, feedback, and rethinking, it has evolved into that.
The widened forte shifts more of the weapon's mass closer to hand, improving handling while also making it easier to control and catch an opponent's attack. A full-length fuller reduces weight without sacrificing stiffness. The 3 mm stainless steel guard features an organic-inspired design that balances durability with weight. Grip in two versions: a wooden with a stainless ring or wrapped with cord and finished with dyed linen.

The Sea smallsword “Nereida”

A good friend of mine commissioned me to make a “sea or pirate sword,” leaving it to me to decide what that should mean.

I settled on a symmetrical blade inspired by the colichemarde, a scaled-down rapier hilt with fin-like quillons, a shell guard referring to the pommel, and a simple black leather grip to keep the overall composition balanced.

The etching was done by the talented Ina Ross Before this project, we had only made one attempt on my personal sabre (which is why I also have a pretty seahorse on blade).

The biggest challenge was designing a pattern that would stand up to regular cleaning without wearing away too quickly, while still being detailed enough to reward a closer look. A group of figures (a triton accompanied by sharks) together with a single hippocampus rendered with graduated linework, proved to be the right balance between durability and detail.

Some time ago, I received a commission for a sidesword with an elaborate, symmetrical swept hilt. Clients like this are a treasure! We quickly agreed on the artistic direction, and they gave me enough creative freedom to really enjoy working on the project.

The blade is designed for sparring: it is flexible, features thickened edges, and has a reinforced tip for safer training. I decided to develop the guard (schilt) similar to a federschwerts, which helps distribute the blade’s mass more effectively. I had previously used this solution on sabres with excellent results.

The entire hilt is inspired by a budding flower. The larger ground surfaces, both flat and faceted, are enriched with details created by hand using files.

Strongly influenced by Italian Renaissance swords, I decided to create something inspired by that style. You may also notice similarities to the “chaotic” fantasy sword I posted some time ago. This one is its more “cleanly” finished counterpart. As a contrast, I chose to make something simpler in form, yet harmonious and symmetrical. More elegant in the end.

Training Dussack “Venus”

I’ve made heavy training weapons before, but I think this one turned out the best. Despite its weight, it moves lightly when swung, and during blocks it feels stable and resonates like a bell. I will definitely experiment further in this direction

A shamshir hilt for a friend

Some time ago, my friend Anton Triscornia won just the shamshir blade made by the Silkfencing Team at a HEMA fencing tournament. I had complete artistic freedom regarding the aesthetics, so I made the hilt in my own style, loosely inspired by historical originals. The final result is a free interpretation and, hopefully, a nice keepsake.
