Hub Power Company (Hubco) has confirmed that BYD vehicle production in Pakistan will initially rely entirely on imported raw materials and components. The plant is expected to commence operations by mid December 2026, with an initial sales target of 1,000 to 1,500 vehicles per month, as shared during the corporate briefing on October 20.

The company plans to increase localization gradually with a long-term goal of 80% local content to improve cost competitiveness. BYD will also introduce additional models in phases, while competition from Chinese CBU vehicles in the EV segment remains intense.

The federal government is set to generate approximately Rs. 188.58 billion over the next five years through the newly proposed Automotive Development Levy under the draft Auto Policy 2026-31, which has been approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to official projections, the levy on locally assembled vehicles is expected to bring in Rs. 37.71 billion in 2026-27, Rs. 38.46 billion in 2027-28, Rs. 38.29 billion in 2028-29, Rs. 37.30 billion in 2029-30, and Rs. 36.83 billion in 2030-31. Under the new structure, cars below 1,000cc, two and three-wheelers, and agricultural tractors will remain exempt, while vehicles ranging from 1,001cc to 2,000cc will face a 2 percent levy and those above 2,000cc will be charged 10 percent. Trucks, buses, vans, and prime movers will also carry a 2 percent rate. The revenue collected will be utilized for export incentives, vendor upgradation, and development of the local auto industry.

EAA Company (Pvt) Ltd has issued an official clarification dated 19th October 2026. The company clarified that misleading reports about restrictions on certain Japanese auction grades are false. Auction grades alone do not determine a vehicle's eligibility for inspection. All inspections are conducted as per Pakistan's applicable standards, based on the actual condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection. No vehicle will be automatically approved or rejected solely on the basis of its auction grade.
