Electrofusion is nowadays a widespread method of joining HDPE and several other plastic pipes using special electrofusion HDPE pipe fittings that have built-in electric heating elements(made of cuprum or nickel) which are used to weld the joint together. The HDPE pipes which are to be joined, are cleaned with aceton and wiped carefully, then inserted into the electrofusion HDPE pipe fitting (with
a temporary clamp if required) and a voltage is applied with an electrofusion welding machines for a fixed time depending on the SDR of the fittings and the diameter of the wire. The result of this procedure is both the pipe and the fitting to weld together producing a very strong homogeneous joint. Then the assembly is left to cool for a specific time.
