From 25 mm/s to 128 mm/s
Where Was the Vibration Coming From?
A 245 kW Ball Mill showed increasing vibration from the motor and gearbox toward the pinion, reaching 128.76 mm/s RMS.
Spectrum and waveform analysis revealed multiple gear-mesh harmonics and strong impulsive activity, pointing toward the pinion–girth gear mesh as the dominant source.
Possible areas for inspection included alignment, backlash, runout, tooth condition, and lubrication.
The highest vibration point is not always the root cause.
