EPANET is very reliable if only the designer understands that this software only simulates what the designer inputs.
Most user don't understand that.
I compare the 2 methods on how we control the flow in EPANET. The first method will always warn us that the flow we assign is not doable, while the other method will always run successfully no matter how large flow you assign to it.
