Thinning of Dutch Boy Nalcrete

Generally, water-based paints, like Dutch Boy Nalcrete Latex can be used as supplied. However, for ease of use, you may opt to add not more than ½ Liter of clean water per 4 Liter can to alter the viscosity.

Primer for Dutch Boy Nalcrete

To promote better paint adhesion and to increase the durability of the system, applying primer to bare concrete walls is recommended.

For the Dutch Boy Nalcrete system, Dutch Boy Nalcrete Flat Latex 7510 can be used as first coat for both interior and exterior concrete walls. Let this layer dry before applying two coats of Dutch Boy Nalcrete Latex with your preferred color and sheen as topcoat.

Treating Mildew

In case of mildew infestation, it is important to treat the surface prior to paint application.

You can do this by mixing laundry bleach to water following a 1:3 ratio, respectively. Apply the bleach solution on the areas with mildew by swabbing or brushing. To ensure proper treatment, let stand for 24 hours before washing off residue. Wipe the surface clean and let dry.

Gentle reminder: After applying paint, proper maintenance and cleaning is recommended to minimize the reoccurrence of mildew.

Repainting Concrete Walls with Existing Dark Colored Paint

To bring the surface color back to neutral and to help the topcoat dry to an even finish, it is recommended to apply a coat of primer when repainting concrete walls with existing dark shaded paints.

If the existing paint is a water-based system, like latex, you can apply 1 coat Dutch Boy Nalcrete Flat Latex 7510 as primer to even out the surface color, followed by two coats of Dutch Boy Nalcrete Latex with your preferred color and sheen as topcoat.
