Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc. IIEE, the only accredited professional organization (APO) of electrical practitioners by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) is the organization of electrical practitioners and the only accredited professional organization (APO) of electrical practitioners by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Founded in 1975, the organization, which started with 500 members, has now 23,000 members and more are joining. The new EE Law (RA 7920) requires Electrical Practitioners (Professional Electrical Engineers, Registered Electrical Engineers and Registered Master Electricians) to be a member of IIEE or other PRC accredited organization of electrical practitioners. IIEE being the only APO of electrical practitioners expects to more than double its membership by year 2008.

“One thing’s for sure—everyone has something to say when fuel prices go up.”

So we asked our community of electrical practitioners: What do you do when gasoline prices rise?

The answers were as diverse as the people behind them—from energy-efficient commuting and mass transport to reducing air-conditioning use, planning trips more efficiently, and finding practical ways to save energy and money.

What came back was more than a collection of comments. It became a snapshot of how Filipino RMEs, REEs, and PEEs think, adapt, and innovate in the face of rising costs.

Because engineers don't simply complain about problems.

They engineer solutions.

𝗜𝗜𝗘𝗘 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗢𝗘, 𝗣𝗦𝗠𝗘 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺

TAGUIG CITY - The Department of Energy (DOE) has initiated discussions with IIEE and Philipine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) on a proposed nationwide technical assessment and audit of power generation facilities, with the Visayas identified as a priority area for the initial rollout, 17 September.

Present in the meeting is DOE Secretary Sharon Garin, Undersecretaries Rowena Cristina Guevara and Mario Marasigan and Director Luningning Baltazar. IIEE was represented by 2026 National President Engr. Robert Mabulay, Professional Regulatory Board of Electrical Engineering (PRBEE) Chairperson Adelino Garcia, former PRBEE chair Francis Mapile, together with representatives from PSME.

Discussions focused on plant reliability, outages, maintenance practices, equipment condition, plant design and technology, dependable capacity, and the availability of qualified technical experts.

IIEE will contribute its expertise in electrical equipment, protection, controls, power systems, and related technical concerns, while the collaboration also seeks to strengthen the participation and capability of Filipino engineering professionals in specialized power plant assessments.

What happens to a solar PV module after years of exposure to the field?

We often think of solar panels in terms of their rated performance. But real-world conditions tell a more complicated story.

In Performance and Degradation Assessment of Solar Photovoltaic Modules in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of the Philippines–Los Baños, the study examines the performance of PV modules and the factors that may influence their degradation.

One of the study’s particularly interesting observations is that older field-exposed modules can, in some cases, outperform newly opened modules—raising questions about storage conditions, moisture, and what happens to PV modules even before they are put into service.

For engineers working with renewable energy, these findings point to an important consideration: the life of a solar PV system does not begin and end with installation.
