JUSTICE FOR ALYSSA ALANO!
Alyssa Alano was silenced in a country where speaking for the people too often comes with danger, and where serving the marginalized is met with pure violence instead of basic protection of our human rights.
Her death is a painful reminder of the deep injustices faced by communities in Negros and across the Philippines. For generations, farmers and workers have carried and continue to carry the weight of landlessness, exploitation, and neglect, while those in power respond to their struggles with fear, intimidation, and brutal militarization.
Alyssa stood with the people. She chose to be present, to listen, and to understand the realities of those whose lives are shaped by inequality every day. In doing so, she became part of a struggle larger than herself: a struggle for dignity, justice, and a better future for the Filipino people.
We cannot treat this as an isolated incident. It reflects a larger pattern of violence against communities, students, organizers, and advocates who dare to stand with the oppressed. When the state meets hardship with weapons instead of reform, it only deepens the wounds of those already suffering.
As students and future professionals, we are called to stand upright alongside our communities. Education, even under the framework of honor and excellence, can not be reduced to personal success alone. It must also serve as a commitment to truth, justice, and nation-building.
We remember Alyssa Alano.
We remember the communities of Negros.
We remember every farmer, worker, and youth leader who continues to fight for justice.
We refuse to stay silent.
Justice for Alyssa Alano.
Justice for the people of Negros.
Justice for all victims of state violence.
