At Jason Marine Tech Philippines, we know that accurate depth readings are critical for safe navigation. Our team recently headed to Tanza, Navotas to troubleshoot a Garmin AQUAMAP 1052 Echo Sounder that was reporting "No Depth Reading."
Technical Breakdown:
Our engineers performed a systematic diagnostic to pinpoint the issue:
Visual Inspection: Initial settings were verified as correct, but the unit still failed to provide depth data.
Cross-Testing: We tested the display unit with a new transducer (Transceiver: GOOD) and tested the onboard transducer with a new display (Result: NOT GOOD).
The Finding: The transducer was transmitting correctly, but the "received" signal was failing.
Pro-Tip for Vessel Owners:
The culprit? Barnacles and algae accumulation! Marine growth on the transducer surface can block returning echoes, leading to total signal loss.
Our Recommendations:
Deep Clean: Remove all barnacles and algae from the transducer surface.
Verify: If readings don't return after a thorough cleaning, the internal components of the transducer may be defective and require a full replacement.
