𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐩 (𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐢𝐭)

Your wire size can be perfectly correct and your circuit can still fail a plan review. Here's why.

Voltage drop is one of those things that's easy to overlook when you're focused on breaker and conductor sizing. But it matters — a lot. If the voltage arriving at the end of your circuit has dropped too far, your equipment won't perform properly. Lights dim. Motors overheat. And the plan examiner sends your submission back.

Here's the formula most of us use for three-phase circuits:

𝐕𝐃 = (𝐊 × 𝐈 × 𝐑 × 𝐋) / (𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 × 𝐕)

Where:

K = 34.64 for three-phase, 40 for single-phase
I = Full load current in Amperes
R = Conductor resistance in ohms per kilometer (from PEC wire tables)
L = One-way circuit length in meters
V = System voltage

note:
Why K = 34.64 (3Ø): In a three-phase circuit, voltage drop involves √3 (≈1.732). Combined with the round-trip factor of 2 and a ×10 unit conversion (R in Ω/km, L in meters), you get 2 × 1.732 × 10 = 34.64.

Why K = 40 (1Ø): In a single-phase circuit, current travels out and returns on the neutral — just 2× the length. With the same unit conversion: 2 × 20 = 40. No √3 factor needed.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐥

When you've got 30 or 40 circuits on a load schedule, you have to run this check on every single one. And every time a circuit length changes — maybe the architect moved a panel, maybe the client revised the layout — you're recalculating downstream. It's not hard math. It's just tedious math that you have to get right every time.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐧

This is one of the things we built Radiant to handle. Every circuit in your load schedule gets a real-time voltage drop calculation — automatically. When you change a length or a wire size, the voltage drop updates instantly. If it fails, the tool tells you which wire size you'd need to bring it back within limits.

You still make the engineering call. The tool just makes sure you're never doing arithmetic when you should be doing design.

Yung Excel Mo Na Kinakain Yung Weekend Mo

Alam mo na yung feeling.

Sunday night.

Isang project. Isang workspace. Isang click to export.

Yung mga engineers na lumipat, less than one hour na lang ang load schedule na dati kalahating araw.

I-try mo ng libre — 7 days. Walang credit card. Walang installation. Buksan mo lang browser mo at mag-design ka na.

NEW UPDATE 🚨🚨

What improved for you as a user

More consistent results
- Circuit sizing, feeder sizing, wire sizing, and voltage drop now come from one canonical calculation path.
You should see fewer cases where the table, summary, feeder panel, and export disagree.

- Better phase balancing
Single-phase circuits on a 3-phase panel are now distributed more predictably.

Manual phase assignment is respected instead of being easily overwritten by recalculation.

More trustworthy feeder results

Main feeder values now recalculate from the same core logic as the branch circuits.

Breaker, wire, conduit, and voltage-drop outputs stay in sync better.

Better project persistence
Project assumptions and manual override metadata are now first-class model data.

That makes saves/loads more reliable for future auditability and user control.

What you’ll notice in the UI/output
Summary panel is more aligned with actual circuit data
Totals, demand load, current, and imbalance now reflect the canonical calculations.

Export output is closer to what you see on screen
The export mapper now reads from the same current feeder/service state instead of drifting from UI calculations.

Completion summary
From a user perspective, the biggest improvements are more consistent calculations, better phase balancing, more reliable feeder/export results, and stronger save/load behavior for advanced calculation context.

Stop Buying Random “Construction Files” Online

Many electrical engineers and contractors are offered downloadable “construction files” or ready-made electrical computations sold online.

Be careful.

These files are often:

copied from old projects

not updated to current code requirements

filled with hidden calculation errors

lacking proper references to the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC)

Using incorrect computations in your electrical design can lead to:

rejected permit applications

failed plan reviews

costly revisions

potential safety risks in actual installations

WORST CASE: EXPENSIVE LAWSUITS

Radiant Electrical Design System was built to solve this problem.

Our platform automatically performs electrical calculations while citing the proper Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) standards, helping engineers produce accurate and consistent design documentation.

With Randiant you can generate:

Electrical Load Schedules

Automatic Wire and Breaker Sizing

Voltage Drop Analysis

Design Analysis Reports

Bill of Materials

All computed using code-based engineering logic developed by qualified electrical engineers.

Instead of buying questionable templates, use a tool designed for real electrical design work.

Design with confidence.
Design with Radiant.
