In 1902, Alabama businesswoman Mary Anderson noticed New York streetcar drivers had to open their windows during snowstorms just to clear their windshields. 🌨️ 🚋

Their passengers shivered while snow blew in. Drivers periodically stepped outside to wipe away accumulating snow and ice, causing delays and risking accidents.

Mary Anderson wasn't an engineer or automotive expert. She was a real estate developer who also managed a cattle ranch and vineyard in Alabama.

Yet her practical mind immediately recognized a solution where others saw only an inconvenience. She envisioned a simple mechanical device - a rubber blade attached to a spring-loaded arm that could be operated from inside the vehicle.

On November 10, 1903, Mary was granted U.S. Patent No. 743,801 for her "Window Cleaning Device." Her design featured a lever inside the vehicle that controlled a swinging arm with a rubber blade on the outside of the windshield.

Ironically, when Mary attempted to sell her invention to a Canadian manufacturing firm, they rejected it, claiming it had "no commercial value." They couldn't imagine that such a device would become standard equipment on every motor vehicle.

By the time her patent expired in 1920, the automobile industry was booming, and windshield wipers based on her fundamental design had become standard in most vehicles. Mary never received a penny for her revolutionary invention.

Today, we activate our windshield wipers without a second thought, little knowing we owe this simple safety feature to a woman whose practical solution has saved countless lives on rainy and snowy roads for over a century. 🚗

Ancient Persians built a 20-mile underground river beneath the desert—and it's still running after 2,700 years. 🏜️💧

The Qanats of Gonabad, constructed between 700-500 BC, remain one of humanity's most ingenious water management systems ever created.

Faced with the challenge of settling in arid regions, Persian engineers devised a solution that would transform deserts into thriving civilizations.

Their method? Dig long, gently sloping underground tunnels that tapped into mountain aquifers, allowing gravity to transport precious water to distant settlements.

Every 20-30 meters, they constructed vertical shafts for construction access and maintenance—some reaching depths of over 300 meters.

By 500 BC, these remarkable systems included water clocks called Fenjaan that ensured fair distribution of irrigation water among farmers and communities.

The impact was profound. Desert cities like Yazd and Isfahan flourished, supporting agriculture and urban life in regions that would otherwise remain uninhabitable.

While similar systems would later appear in North Africa and China, the Persian qanats remain the earliest documented use of this technology.

The engineering was so perfect that many of these ancient tunnels continue functioning today, having survived for nearly three millennia.

Perhaps most impressive is that this technology required no mechanical pumps or power—just the elegant application of gravity and precise engineering knowledge. 🌊

Nagsalita na ang CEO ng brand na Milo tungkol sa desisyon nilang tanggalin si Carlos Yulo bilang brand ambassador. Ayon sa kanya, hindi lamang nakasalalay sa mga medalya o malalaking halaga ng pera ang tunay na tagumpay, kundi sa mga pagpapahalaga tulad ng pagpapatawad, utang na loob, at pagiging makatao.

Ang pagtanggal kay Carlos Yulo sa kanyang posisyon bilang ambassador ng Milo ay hindi simpleng isyu ng pera o sa mga premyo na nakuha niya mula sa kanyang mga nagawa sa gymnastics. Sa halip, ito ay naglalaman ng mas malalim na mensahe na may kinalaman sa karakter at reputasyon ng isang tao.
