Heavenly Father,

We lift up to You all the seafarers navigating perilous waters amid rising conflict. Protect them from harm, shield them from danger, and surround them with Your peace and presence.

Guard every ship’s crew as they continue their work far from home. Calm the storms — both natural and political — that threaten their journey. Be their refuge in uncertainty and their strength in moments of fear.

Grant wisdom to international leaders, and soften their hearts to choose peace over violence, understanding over hostility, and dialogue over destruction.

Bring comfort to families waiting at home, and let Your peace reign over the seas and among the nations.

In Jesus’ name we pray. 🙏

Amen.

INFOGRAPHIC | The Four Pillars of IMO

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) established four foundational conventions—known as the Four Pillars of Maritime Regulation—to ensure global safety, environmental protection, and competency at sea. These pillars guide the training, operations, and responsibilities of all seafarers and shipping companies worldwide.

1. SOLAS – Safety of Life at Sea
The most important maritime safety convention. SOLAS sets minimum standards for ship construction, equipment, fire prevention, lifesaving appliances, navigation, and emergency preparedness—ensuring ships are built and operated to protect lives at sea.

2. MARPOL – Marine Pollution Prevention
This convention focuses on protecting the marine environment. MARPOL regulates pollution from ships, including oil, chemicals, garbage, sewage, and air emissions. Its goal: reduce human impact and keep our oceans clean and sustainable.

3. STCW – Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping
STCW ensures that every seafarer is properly trained, certified, and qualified for their duties. It defines global standards for operational competence, safety practices, and watchkeeping to maintain professionalism on board all vessels.

4. MLC 2006 – Maritime Labour Convention
Often called the “Seafarers’ Bill of Rights,” MLC safeguards the welfare, working conditions, and rights of all seafarers. It covers fair employment, medical care, accommodation, recreation, food, and overall well-being.

-Narrow channels:
Vessels proceeding along the channel have the right of way over vessels crossing the channel.

-Head-on situations:
