To promote water security and climate resilience in Central Visayas, the Department of Science and Technology – Region VII (DOST-7) continues to collaborate with Hydronet Consultants, Inc. through regular coordination meetings focused on science, technology, and innovation (STI) support for local government units (LGUs).

The collaboration supports the Department of Science and Technology’s Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) and DOST’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) initiatives under the Wealth Protection framework, addressing water-related challenges such as flooding, water scarcity, and climate impacts.

Through these coordination initiatives, DOST-7 and Hydronet are developing STI-based interventions, including capacity-building initiatives and climate data management activities, to help LGUs improve urban water management, planning, and disaster risk reduction.

By promoting data-driven and science-based approaches, the collaboration supports more resilient communities and sustainable water resource management across Central Visayas.

DOST-7 and Hydronet Consultants recently held a strategic follow-up meeting to move forward key collaborations under the Water Security Initiative for Region 7.

Discussions focused on international partnerships, nature-based solutions for coastal cities like Cebu, the expansion of the Water Security Assessment Tool (WATSAT) for LGUs, data management programs, and scholarship opportunities for future water leaders.

These initiatives aim to strengthen local planning, improve access to reliable data, and support climate-resilient solutions that protect our water resources and communities.
