What you see is a roundabout signage composing of 4 pillars (26m high) supporting a cable suspended double ring LED screens where the farthest distance between 2 pillars is 40m across a busy highway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The challenges met by MCCon in designing the structural framing of this infrastructure is maintaining a safe deflection while still having an economical approach in terms of member sizing and constructability.

Regional wind loads and accumulation of sand during sand storms are also integral in the analysis of the design.

Proper coordination between the architectural team and engineering team have made this design possible.

These are 3 essential checks to be done before moving forward with design of members.

This will determine if your member positioning are optimized to carry the load demand as efficiently as possible.

1. Serviceability Check:
In simpler terms, this will determine if your structure has portions that are overly deflecting due to service loads (Selfweight and Occupancy Weight).

2. Story Drift Check:
This will give you an idea if there are any lateral or torsional irregularity with your member placement.

3. Load Distribution Check
This check will determine the overall stiffness of your structure and will give you an idea on where it is necessary to add shear walls or columns.
