POST RESPONSIBLY: PNP REMINDS COPS OF ONLINE ETHICS
The Philippine National Police (PNP) under the leadership of the Acting Chief PNP, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. has issued a reminder to all personnel engaged in vlogging, livestreaming, and other online content creation following a recent incident in Talisay City, Cebu, where a police officer posted content deemed inappropriate and inconsistent with police conduct.
Citing the DPCR Memorandum Circular dated September 10, 2024, titled “Guidelines in Posting of Contents in Social Media,” the PNP called on all personnel to strictly follow rules designed to protect the organization’s integrity and prevent online actions that may compromise public trust.
The guidelines aim to harmonize creative expression and responsible service, ensuring that content created by PNP personnel does not violate existing laws, disrespect human rights, misuse police uniforms and facilities, or reveal sensitive information that may jeopardize operations.
Acting Chief PNP, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. stressed, “We support creativity and transparency, but professionalism must always come first. Wearing the uniform—offline or online—comes with accountability. Our personnel must always reflect the discipline expected of a peace officer.”
PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño added, “Social media is a powerful tool for building trust, but misuse can destroy it instantly. Our message is simple: create content that informs, inspires, and uplifts—not one that embarrasses the badge.”
The PNP reaffirmed its support for the call of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who encourages all government personnel to demonstrate integrity, discipline, and accountability in all actions visible to the public.
Personnel are reminded that content creation should avoid using the PNP uniform, equipment, or offices in personal posts, refrain from livestreaming official operations or sensitive activities, and avoid engaging in political or commercial endorsements.
The PNP encourages content that is educational, community-oriented, uplifting, and reflective of police values, especially those promoting public safety, accomplishments, human rights, and positive community engagement.
