🛠️ Epoxy Flake Flooring: Steps & Material Details
(Based on the process shown in your reference video)
📋 Materials Needed
Table
Material Purpose
Epoxy Primer / Base Coat Seals concrete, improves adhesion, prevents moisture issues
Epoxy Body Coat Primary layer that holds the flakes; self-leveling type for smooth finish
Decorative Color Flakes Vinyl/quartz flakes (mixed colors: black, grey, white) for texture & design
Epoxy Top Coat Clear, UV-resistant / chemical-resistant sealer for gloss & protection
Tools Squeegee, spiked roller, flake broadcast scoop, trowel, solvent, spike shoes
📝 Step-by-Step Process
1. Surface Preparation (Most Critical!)
Clean concrete thoroughly: remove oil, dust, paint, and loose particles
Grind/sand the surface to create a rough profile for better bonding
Repair cracks, holes, and uneven areas with cement/epoxy filler
Ensure floor is 100% dry and free of moisture before starting
2. Apply Primer Coat
Mix epoxy primer per manufacturer ratio
Roll/squeegee evenly across the floor; let cure until tacky (usually 6–12 hours)
Fills tiny pores and stops air bubbles from appearing later
3. Apply Base Epoxy Coat
Mix the self-leveling epoxy body coat
Pour and spread evenly with a notched squeegee, then use a spiked roller to pop air bubbles
Work in sections so the epoxy does not dry before adding flakes
4. Broadcast Flakes (as shown in video)
While the base coat is still wet, scatter flakes evenly by hand or scoop
Cover fully (over-broadcast) so no base color shows through
Let it cure completely (12–24 hours)
5. Remove Excess Flakes
Once cured, scrape/sweep off loose flakes that did not stick
Lightly sand any sharp or raised spots for a smooth surface
6. Apply Protective Top Coat
Mix clear epoxy/polyurethane top coat
Spread evenly with a squeegee or roller
This gives the glossy, glass-like finish, protects against scratches, stains, and water
Allow full cure (24–48 hours light use; 7 days for heavy traffic)
✨ Key Notes
This is Epoxy Flake Flooring – durable, seamless, easy to clean, perfect for homes, garages, and commercial spaces
The finish in your reference is Dark Grey Base + Mixed Grey/Black/White Flakes with a high-gloss clear coat
Do not add cement directly to ready-mixed epoxy – it will ruin the mixture! If you need to adjust texture, use approved aggregates only.
