The Jomel effect

This is our Modular staffhousing for our Bamboo Artisans at Hayag Farm School and Bamboo Bootcamp.

The construction program is a "Bayanihan" style of community building, where fellow carpenters/artisans will work together to build each others house in succession started through a Bamboo Bootcamp workshop. We completed our pilot run of the program, and once cashflow is available we will be building the next houses through voting of our Artisans.

The same module is also used for the ongoing construction of our private Villas for guests and learners. We are making a statement that the houses of our staff and artisans share the same DNA as what we offer our guests and learners.

A Bamboo Bridgehouse

The choice of interiors, is a homage to Filipino ancestral houses with dark wood floor to dark ceiling, framed by large picture windows to connected to exterior veiws, or In this case an open mountain view of Baganihan.

Choice of furniture involves light tones and this is where colors are allowed to pop out. The Bamboo is also highlighted by the contrast of dark and black.

Management of energy through low light and dark interiors, allows one to slow down and ground yourself.

Our proof of concept

Hayag Farm School in Davao Philippines

Hayag Farm School is a living place shaped by hands, land, and shared purpose. Located within an ancestral domain co-stewarded with the Matigsalug Tribe, the site is built one structure at a time through collective learning and participation.

Each building begins as a Bamboo Bootcamp; an immersive gathering where indigenous community members, artisans, and learners come together to build, teach, and rediscover bamboo as both material and meaning. Bamboo is not treated as an alternative, but as a central design language, renewable, expressive, and deeply rooted in place.
The design intent is intentionally humble. Structures are crafted to feel possible, approachable, and human-scaled - allowing people to see not only what bamboo can become, but what they themselves can do.

Hayag Farm School is neither a monument nor a masterplan. It is an evolving landscape of learning, creativity, and care where architecture becomes a quiet act of regeneration, restoring skills, confidence, and connection to the land.

The challenge of adaptive re-use, while at the same time respecting the context by improving the roof eaves

For this project we went for a rafter with curved edges, while showing Bamboo possibilities. An installation aiming to involve the community and the brotherhood sponsoring the installation.

Tulay: A Bamboo Bridgehouse, at Hayag Farm School

A defining moment for Bamboo structures would be the removal of scaffolding, and seeing the tensegrity and structural intent working together.

We use cost efficient materials, blending the green colored roof to the landscape, and built up curve trusses with built up space truss for the bridge floor.

Interiors on the way.
