However, manufacturer stated acoustic ratings are based on ideal laboratory conditions, and in real projects achieving that same performance is not always guaranteed.

Flanking paths through walls, ceilings, and floors, poor detailing, gaps and air leakage, inadequate seals, MEP penetrations, and installation quality can all significantly reduce actual performance. Just like you wouldn’t buy a smartphone based solely on the word "Phone" without checking the RAM or battery life, you shouldn't specify an acoustic product without diving into its performance metrics.

"Acoustic" products generally fall into three distinct categories. Using the wrong one is like trying to fix a leak with tape:

Blackout curtains are NOT soundproofing.

We often see clients install thick blackout curtains hoping to block noise from outside; traffic, neighbors, karaoke, or street noise.

Unfortunately, the result is usually:
❌ Noise still coming in
❌ Very little improvement in sound isolation
❌ False expectation of “soundproofing”
❌ Wasted budget

Blackout curtains are designed to block light, NOT SOUND.
