An international learned body, was founded in 1918 and incorporated in New Zealand in 1924, with the following main objectives:

To promote, encourage and improve the science and practice of fire extinction, fire prevention and fire engineering, and all operations and expedients connected therewith. To give an impulse to ideas likely to be useful in connection with or in relation to such scien

ce and practice to the members of the Institution and to the community at large. IFE is at the heart of the fire community, promoting best practice and advancing the discipline for the benefit of society and supporting the professional development of members.
