We are hiring!

We are on the hunt for a high level operator to join Davieth Verheij and the AgFirst Engineering Waikato team in Te Awamutu.

The future of farming needs smart engineering — here’s your chance to be part of it. — join us as a Senior Pumping & Irrigation Technician!

About AgFirst Engineering

At AgFirst Engineering, our people are everything. We’re renowned for our excellent team culture and for having a strong capacity of highly skilled people who support one another. As an owner-operated family business based in Te Awamutu, we combine the strength of being part of AgFirst NZ with the practical expertise of a dedicated engineering company.

AgFirst Engineering is hands-on. We design, supply, and build custom engineered solutions for water and effluent systems across the primary industries. This includes the importation of high-quality products and materials, as well as in-house manufacturing of system componentry. Once projects are built, we stand behind them with comprehensive service support and ongoing maintenance.

We are leaders in innovation, actively developing and applying new technology to make farming systems more efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. Our work spans from full project delivery to key product supply, reaching clients nationwide and internationally.

With the growing demand for smarter, greener practices, this is an exciting time to join a company at the forefront of engineering for the future of farming.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Pumping & Irrigation Technician to bring hands-on expertise to the installation, servicing, and maintenance of pumping, irrigation, reticulation, effluent, and control/monitoring systems. You’ll play a key role in delivering engineered solutions end-to-end, while being supported by a strong, experienced team.

What you’ll do

• New project design. You will work alongside the Company Director (Davieth Verheij) and/or other senior colleagues to complete new system design work and pricing.

• Project management, ex*****on and commissioning. You will lead your own projects with support from your colleagues. This includes collating materials, facilitating contractors, completing site works and completing job cards.

• You will work closely with the customer (typically a farmer). Clear communication around timing, job processes, expectations and updates are essential.

• Install & maintain water and effluent treatment, pumping, reticulation, irrigation and control/monitoring systems

• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system faults

• Carry out preventative maintenance and system inspections

• Provide technical support and leadership in the field

What we’re looking for

• A proactive mindset and genuine interest in sustainable farming solutions

• A strong team player who values collaboration and culture

• Naturally self-driven, reliable, and organised, with the ability to see tasks through to completion

• A high level of experience in water, irrigation, wastewater/effluent systems, engineering or another rural role would be advantageous but not essential. We have a knowledgeable team that can support the right person.

• Strong mechanical & electrical fault-finding skills

• Current driver’s license (essential)

Why AgFirst Engineering?

• Be part of a market leader in agricultural water and effluent engineering

• Work on full projects end-to-end – from design through to maintenance

• Help deliver solutions nationwide and internationally

• Join an owner-operated family business with strong Waikato roots

• A team with the capacity and expertise to fully support you

• Competitive salary + company vehicle, phone, laptop & tools

• Excellent working hours and flexibility

• Ongoing training and career development opportunities

• A supportive, people-first environment with a strong safety culture

• Varied, challenging field service work across the primary sector

We are looking to hire by February 2026. However, we can be flexible around start date whether that is sooner or later.

🛠️ It’s that time of year for the AgFirst Engineering team!
Effluent irrigators are rolling in for servicing — and we’re moving fast. Here are two of 13 units that needed urgent attention this week alone.

👀 This Weta irrigator is in for its first service since we installed it back in 2016 — not bad for nearly a decade of hard work!

💧 At AgFirst, we don’t just design and build systems — we back them up with expert servicing across all brands.
This week we’ve had our hands on Wetas, Cobras, Williams, Torpedos, and Ecostreams.

✅ Keeping systems running smoothly.
✅ Minimising downtime.
✅ Supporting Kiwi farmers.
