Tinkd Makerspace Tinkd makerspace is a STEM Wana Trust project. We provide the tools & equipment, you bring the ideas! Sign up for membership and book via the website.

Maker sessions: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 5pm-8pm, Sundays 9am-12pm. FREE Tours available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6pm and Sundays at 10am. Book a tour ticket via the website.

🧵 MEET THE REPAIRER: SUE

Some things just need a little bit of TLC — and Sue is the volunteer repairer to help!

Sue brings her sewing and mending skills to our Repair Café, helping give much-loved clothes and treasured possessions a second life. She’s tackled everything from repairing clothes to mending teddy bears and dolls. Cleaning the satin lining of a presentation box containing fish knives, a dress and hemming pyjama pants to fixing a handmade knitted Jumper 🧶🪡

It’s a great reminder that a tear, some dirt, a hole or wonky hem doesn’t mean something needs to be thrown away. Sometimes, a little skill, a few stitches and some love is all it takes!

🔧 What is a Repair Café, and how does it work? ♻️

Ever had something break and wondered whether it's worth fixing? That's exactly what our Repair Café is all about!

A Repair Café is a community event where you can bring along your broken or damaged items and work with our friendly volunteer repairers to see if they can be fixed. From faulty appliances and broken toys to torn clothing and wobbly furniture, we're all about giving things a second life!

🛠️ How does it work?
Bring it along: Book in your broken item and bring it to our Repair Café.
Meet our repairers: Our friendly volunteers will take a look and see what might be possible.
Get involved: Where possible, you'll get to work alongside the repairer, learn a few new skills and discover how things work. Give it a second life: Hopefully, you'll leave with a repaired item instead of something destined for landfill!

🌱 Why Repair Café?
It's about more than just fixing things. It's about reducing waste, learning practical skills, sharing knowledge and bringing our community together. Plus, you might discover that repairing something is easier than you think!

☕ And the best part? You can enjoy a coffee and a treat for a koha while you wait.

🔧 MEET THE REPAIRER: RICK

Rick is one of the skilled volunteer repairers at our Repair Café, and he’s certainly had a variety of things come across his workbench! From Panini sandwich makers, rice cookers and toasters to vacuum cleaners, lamps, kids toys and even a Christmas musical carousel , Rick enjoys tracking down what is at fault and figuring out how best to fix it.

We love having repairers like Rick who share their skills, troubleshoot the tricky stuff and help keep useful items out of landfill. ♻️

🔧 Another week, another Repair Café! ♻️

Our September Repair Café was a SOLD OUT success! 🎉 A huge thank you to everyone who came along, brought in their broken treasures, and helped us give things a second life.

Our amazing repairers got stuck into all sorts of challenges, including:

🧹 A vacuum cleaner
🧸 A 30-year-old teddy bear
📻 An old Fisher-Price cassette player
🖨️ A 3D printer
🔊 A stereo
💡 A lamp

From much-loved childhood toys to everyday household essentials, it's amazing what a little know-how, patience and a bit of tinkering can achieve. ❤️

Imagine an event that shifts your perspective from consuming to creating. A gathering where you can engage with enthusiastic inventors, tinkerers, and problem solvers—whether it’s discovering how to capture biomethane from food waste, designing the ultimate karaoke system case, coding an interactive block coding activity, or finding innovative methods to enhance data collection for kiwi birds while utilising natural resources like slash.

That’s exactly what we accomplished at MakerFest 2026—the inaugural event in Tauranga that genuinely honoured grassroots innovation and problem-solving. Over the span of two days, nearly 700 individuals united to explore, create, and exchange ideas. Attendees of all ages participated—proving that anyone can be a maker. There’s something truly enchanting about conceiving an idea, designing it, prototyping it, and witnessing it come to fruition. This is why Tinkd Makerspace was founded; our mission is to inspire exploration and facilitate the rapid transformation of ideas into tangible items.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with a strong demand for more events like this. Do we want to see more innovators, creators, and makers? Absolutely! 🌟
