“If you're looking for a motorcycle workshop that genuinely cares about riders, stop reading reviews and just go straight to JR Motorcycles in Rolleston.
I rolled in mid–7-day adventure ride after a particularly memorable night freezing in a tent at Arthur’s Pass. Somewhere between nearly turning into a human popsicle and riding into Christchurch, my bike started making some very questionable noises on startup. Not exactly the kind of soundtrack you want when you're a long way from home and relying on your bike for everything.
I turned up unannounced with no booking and zero warning, fully expecting the classic “we’re booked out for weeks” response. Instead, Jono, Melody and the team just got stuck straight in.
They spent a serious amount of time diagnosing the issue properly, fitted me into an already packed schedule, and carried out a full chain service and oil change. Everything was done with a calm, solution-based approach — no drama, no upselling, no ego, just genuinely good mechanics trying to get a rider back on the road safely.
What also really stood out was the workshop itself — absolutely immaculate. You could eat your lunch off the floor. Everything is organised, professional, and clearly run with pride.
Even while I was there, I couldn’t help but notice how they treated every other customer coming through the door. Same level of professionalism, same calm problem-solving approach, same honest communication. Whether it was a quick question or a more involved issue, everyone got the same high standard of service. That consistency says a lot.
More than anything, this is a small team who clearly live and breathe motorbikes. Jono and Melody have built something that feels properly rider-focused — no corporate nonsense, just straight-up good people doing excellent work.
The only downside is they’ve now completely ruined every other workshop experience for me, because everything else will inevitably be compared to this place — and that’s a tough benchmark to beat.
