🗳️The final results are in 🗳️
Unfortunately, this wasn’t my time.
However although I wanted this from my heart- I am a believer that things happen for a reason and when one door closes, another opens.

Congratulations to Sophie McInnes, Big Red Shefford and Rhys Laraman.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for me. That means a lot.

I stood on a platform focused for an urgent Rates Review (going line by line and bringing rates down), advocating for essential infrastructure and services and crime prevention and community safety.
All which I believe are important to address immediately.

I live here and have worked hard for and in our community for many years- not just during election time.

It’s time for the council to be about transparency, accountability, efficient and serving the community—not their own agendas.

My campaign involved many months delivering flyers, various meetings, coffee catch ups and everything in between. The highlight was connecting with you all, meeting new people and understanding our community and local issues first hand.
Unfortunately, a few candidates stepped aside at the last minute and didn’t approach their campaigns or community with the seriousness it deserved.

I attended all Rolleston “Meet the Candidates” meetings and the majority of Selwyn’s too.
Despite being the hardest working, most visible, and passionate candidate, the results didn’t go my way.

We voted this council in for change - even electing councillors who don’t live in the ward or haven’t been active in their communities until election time.
I expect them to keep their election promises - I’ll be watching and holding you accountable.
That said, I remain committed to holding our new Council also accountable and ensuring they perform.
I hope no councillors resign in the next three years.

I have always taken the role of being your Councillor seriously and it would have been my primary job and that too to always act in the best interest of our community.

Thank you again to everyone who supported and voted for me. Sadly, while many expressed support, they didn’t vote and the truth is, the only way to show support is at the ballot box/bin.

Many have asked what’s next for me…I’m still reflecting as I did not have a plan B. I was focused on being your Councillor only.
One thing won’t change- and that is my love for Rolleston, Selwyn, actively being involved in our communities and looking for ways to serve.

See you around,
Moneel Pratap 👋

I was so excited about PAK'nSAVE I went back again! 😅

This evening to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Hamish Kerr and the inspiring team from E Tū Tāngata, while also connecting with the owner and staff of PAK’nSAVE.

It was a crazy busy first day for them, but the energy was incredible.
What a fantastic addition to the Rolleston, Selwyn community.

Wishing them all the best.

Voting is officially closed - and what a spectacular journey it’s been ✅

From putting up the very first signs in the dark and rain (I’m pretty sure I was first in Selwyn) to attending and speaking at meetings - not just here in Selwyn but in Christchurch too - it’s been a privilege to get stuck in, connect with so many of you and hear from the many talented candidates standing alongside me.

From flyer drops to coffee catch ups, doorstep conversations to supermarket chats, handshakes on the street, and everything in between - thank you.
Your support, your time, your feedback, and even the challenging conversations have meant alot to me.

I’ve met people from all walks of life - new residents, locals who’ve called Selwyn home for over 40 years, young families, retirees and babies just beginning their life here.
Every story and every interaction has reminded me why I love this town, this district, and why I put myself forward to serve.

Rain, sun, or wind - I’ve shown up, and I’ll keep showing up.
My jacket in the photo below has battled through it all.
No matter the outcome of this election, I know I’ve put in the hard work. I’m proud of that, and my commitment to serving our community remains unchanged.

And regardless of the result - I’ll be back out there tomorrow, at our local events, in our community.

I love Rolleston, Selwyn.

In service and with gratitude,
Moneel Pratap 👋 🤝
