Louie Coburn has placed 10th out of 23 in the Alpine Luge Sprint Slalom Test event at Konigssee-Jenner in Germany. It was the concluding race of the Alpine Luge season, Louie's first season racing in this luge discipline. Louie has adapted very well and learnt a lot which he will now bring back to New Zealand to share with the rest of our NZ lugers during our forthcoming season in Naseby. The photos include Louie with Andrei Deac (Romania) who was our Naseby Luge Coach in 2024 and 2025 and with the FIL Group (Thomas/USA, Shohei/JPN, Christina/AUT - coach for this race, Mason/USA & Louie).

Last night, under lights on the Jaufental Track in Italy Louie placed 16th in the final International Luge Federation Senior Alpine Luge World Cup race for the 2025/26 season. Still a Junior, Louie achieved two top 15 finished in his first season racing Alpine Luge in Europe and placed 17th out of 40 athletes from 12 countries in the overall standings. Next weekend Louie will take part in an Alpine Luge Sprint Slalom Demo event on the Jenner ski area above Konigssee in Germany. (Photo credit Ulrich Wilhelm.)

_ _ it happens. After two solid 17th place training runs Louie managed to flip his sled in the first race run at the past weekend's Alpine Luge Junior World Cup finale at Latsch in Italy. The result was his first DNF (did not finish). With Louie unable to collect any points for the weekend he dropped from 18th to 20th place in the final overall standings. Immediately afterwards Louie said "I'm all good, just my ankle is a bit sore but I'll be fine. I got real unlucky going into one of the fast corners. My foot caught something in the braking area as the track was getting a bit soft, and I got thrown off the sled." Next weekend Louie races in the final Senior World Cup race of the season on the Jaufental track in Italy.
