After painting a couple of rooms in their house with the Linseed Oil Paint and became very interested in it and then beg

an my mission to bring this great product back to the New Zealand market. Ekopaints now sells Ottosson Linseed Oil Paint exclusively in New Zealand, which is produced in Sweden. It comes in a range of outdoor and indoor paints, and in a wonderful and original range of colours. The paints Ekopaints sells are made from linseed oil and pigment, nothing else, so it is sustainable, renewable and non-toxic, so it is great for the Environment. Linseed oil paint soaks into wood and plaster surfaces so it provides a far better protection that conventional paints like Acrylic that only stick to the surface. There is no need for primers with our paint and brushes are easily to clean and keep in tip-top shape by cleaning with linseed oil. By volume linseed oil paint is slightly more expensive than conventional paint, but because it is organic the molecules in the paint stretch much more than conventional paint (which are basically plastic molecules). This means our paint can be applied alot thinner, which means it spreads 2 to 3 times further, so our paint works out to be 50% less in cost than conventional paints! Being non-toxic, our paint is also great to work with and it provides a non-toxic environment to living in. Linseed Oil Paint is also a breeze to maintain because after it fades (in 4 to 5 years), it can brought back to its original sheen by simple painting over it with linseed oil!

Biobased Coatings Europe 2026 conference in Düsseldorf, Germany, June 10-11.
We were 24 invited speakers and about a hundred participants at the conference and for me it was the first time to be invited to a European conference so it was of course a little nervous but of course very exciting to have the opportunity to compare where Ottosson Färgmakeri is regarding the European Union's goal for green transition in the paint and surface treatment industry. Most speakers worked in large companies' laboratories to increase the biobased element in binders. It was obvious that the vast majority were still working with plastics, acrylates and alkyds. Some worked with lignin which is a natural binder in plants and various natural waxes.
We were the only company that only worked with linseed oil and could therefore report a 100% biobased product as a binder.
In my presentation, I was able to emphasize that for 40 years I have only worked with linseed oil and was able to show great success with our linseed oil paints. We have had to wait many years to be able to show reference objects that have proven to last a very long time. That gave a strength to my presentation that impressed the participants. It was not laboratory tests but reality, which is also based on a 500-year tradition in Sweden.
After the conference, I felt strengthened in the belief that we are working in the right direction to do the little we can for a more sustainable world.

See how linseed oil paint is the superior paint to acrylic paint. The window frames on the left were painted with Ottosson linseed oil paint 🇸🇪 in 2017 over existing acrylic paint, and the window frames on the right were left unpainted. Look at the difference! Message me, Louis Friel, it you want to meet for a coffee at and talk about linseed oil paint! PS, like the paint, the coffee ☕️ is also great!

In 2017, the window frames on the left were painted with Ottosson linseed oil paint, and on the right side weren't. Well, just look at the difference today in 2026, no peeling or cracking on the window frames to left, and on the right, the paint on the window frames is in very bad shape.

Let's look at a few of the materials that go into making 20 litres of acrylic paint:
2kg of acrylic resins, what are acrylic resins? Acrylic resins are thermoplastic materials derived from acrylic and/or methacrylic monomers. In other words, acrylic resin is liquid plastic.
150ml of ammonia, what is ammonia? Ammonia is used as a drying agent for acrylic paint, and ammonia is a toxic chemical, so when you inhale paint fumes, you are inhaling ammonia!

Compare this with linseed oil paint, which does not contain any plastic material or toxins, only linseed oil and natural pigments. Linseed oil paint is a safe, sustainable, and durable alternative to acrylic paint.🌱
