Sometimes the best solution is a custom one.

When Air New Zealand needed ground power support across a number of regional sites, the challenge was finding a practical solution that didn’t mean buying multiple units sitting idle at locations with only occasional requirements.

After working closely with Air New Zealand and the manufacturer, our team designed and built a custom dual-output GPU supplying both 28VDC and 400Hz at 45KVA from a single unit, mounted on a road-legal mobile trailer.

The result is a unit that Air New Zealand teams can drive directly to whichever airport needs it, when they need it. Flexible, practical, and purpose-built for their operation.

It’s the kind of problem-solving we enjoy working with the customer and the OEM to find a solution that actually fits the operation, rather than forcing the operation to fit an off-the-shelf product.

We'll see you in Wellington this month! ✈️

The Fieldair team is heading to the NZ Airports Hui 2026, taking place at Tākina and Te Papa Tongarewa from 19 to 21 October.

The theme this year is Fit for the Future: three days of conversations, connections and ideas shaping what New Zealand's airports look like over the next 20 years. It's exactly the kind of event we love being part of.

If you're attending, come and find the Fieldair team; we'd love to catch up in person.

Big news from the South Island!

Fieldair has significantly grown its Ground Support Equipment operations in Christchurch, taking over the former Unilode facility at 22 Perimeter Road, Christchurch Airport.

The new site is now our dedicated GSE hub for the South Island, offering maintenance, repair, supply, leasing, and Warrant of Fitness inspections for vehicles and equipment, all under one roof. It means faster turnarounds, more capacity, and better local support for customers across Canterbury and the wider South Island.

The facility became operational on 21 September 2026, and we couldn't be more excited about what this means for our South Island customers.

If you have GSE requirements in Christchurch, get in touch with the team:

Behind every great company, there are people who helped shape it. Today we want to acknowledge one of those people, Bill Olsen.

Born in Tauramui in 1939, Bill's connection to aviation started early. He trained as an auto electrician, won a flying scholarship, and became a private pilot before securing work as a flying instructor in Palmerston North. From there, he moved to Wairoa to fly topdressing aircraft for Bill Cookson's operation, and that's where the Fieldair story really began for him.

Bill joined Fieldair as Area Manager for Hawke's Bay before relocating to the Palmerston North head office, eventually becoming General Manager and then Managing Director. He was instrumental in establishing Air Freight NZ Limited with the Convair 580, which became one of the most significant chapters in Fieldair's growth.

In 1996, Bill and two colleagues acquired Fieldair from its farmer shareholders, and in 1999 the business was sold to Freightways. Bill continued as Managing Director before stepping into a consulting role, which he held until his passing in 2011.

He was described by those who worked alongside him as a cornerstone of the New Zealand aviation industry, someone who steered Fieldair to become the great company it is today.

If you knew Bill or have a memory to share, we'd love to hear from you in the comments below. 75 years of Fieldair wouldn't look the same without him.

No job is too big or too small for the Fieldair NDT team.

Last week's job was a Bell 204 Main Rotor Mast and Hub assembly, coming in at nearly 2 metres long.

Seen here sitting in our 2.4m capacity Magnetic Particle Bench, this is exactly the kind of large-scale, high-stakes inspection work our NDT team is set up to handle.

When it comes to critical rotary wing components, there's no room for shortcuts. We carry out every inspection with the precision and care the job demands.

When it comes to aviation, every detail counts, including the tools you use to maintain it.

Torque wrenches drift over time through regular use, wear, and environmental conditions. Without regular calibration, there's no way to be confident the torque values you're applying are accurate and in aviation, that matters.

Our torque wrench calibration service helps you:
🔧 Maintain accurate and consistent torque application
🔧 Identify tools that have moved outside their required tolerance
🔧 Support your maintenance and quality control procedures
🔧 Keep calibration records and traceability up to date
🔧 Get greater confidence from the tools you rely on every day

Whether you're working on aircraft, helicopters, heavy machinery, or vehicles, we can help.

Don't leave torque to guesswork. Get in touch with Bert to arrange your next calibration 📞 021 585 564

What a few days at the 2026 Aviation Industry Association Conference in Wellington! ✈️

It was fantastic to connect with so many operators, partners, and friends from across the New Zealand aviation industry. Our team had great conversations at the stand, showcased the Red Box portable power range, and caught up with familiar faces at a really well-run event.

A special congratulations to John Keyzer on receiving the Aviation Mentor Award at the Gala Dinner, a well-deserved recognition of an outstanding contribution to New Zealand aviation 👏

And a big thank you to everyone who stopped by the stand, entered the DC-3 Lego draw, and made the conference such a great few days.

See you next year!
