One of the lads, nice work Stu 💪🏽
It’s not every day that you get to turn a 70-tonne Dozer into a remote-controlled machine, so when technicians couldn’t travel to our site to install the unit the Open Pit Maintenance team rose to the challenge.
The team recently installed and commissioned a remote-control kit to our latest D10T2 Dozer (DZ409). This allows the machine to be remotely operated (by line of sight) in higher risk areas of the open pits, keeping our team a safe distance away from hazardous areas. Usually, Remote Control Technologies (RCT) would join us on site from Australia to install and commission these kits but due to COVID-19 restrictions this wasn’t possible. Instead, our Auto Electrician Paul and long-term contractor from MCER Stuart rose to the challenge and successfully completed the installation and commissioning of this unit.
“It was a challenging and very enjoyable project, very different to the typical daily jobs and great to be involved.”
Training will now be conducted for Operators and Maintenance Technicians via video meetings with RCT to get our team ready to use the new unit.
